That’s not a “font” change, that’s a capitalization change.
Still a waste of money, though. Someone must have a brother in the sign business...

Wow, talk about a total waste of money and resources. There are some people in our Government that need a serious @ss kicking behind the woodshed.
We can’t afford garbage like this. Don’t these idiots know this? The bankrupcy of America is being done deliberately. Our nation is being taken over by economic ruin vs. a war. We must stop this... I just don’t know how we can beat some sense into our elected officials. They seem to be power drunk and spend happy.
The pressure cooker is way over pressure now. It won’t be long until it pops.

We did the same thing in Boone County MO. Not sure whose idea it was. They haven’t replaced them all.

Not just NYC. Its the front page story here in Topeka, KS today. Its a federal rule change...our local county has asked ‘what if we don’t change the signs?’. Nobody knows the answer yet...probably some sort of fed funding will be withheld.

The Federal Highway Administration says the switch will improve safety because drivers identify the words more quickly when they're displayed that way - and can sooner return their eyes to the road. Total Balderdash - the bigger the lettering, the easier to spot it and read it. Note even on the example photos in post #1 that the lowercased "y" character forces the entire word to be written in a smaller size.
