The odds-on favorite to win the GOP presidential nod in 2012 is none other than Sarah Palin, according to a statistical formula developed by Villanova University Prof. Lara Brown. The professor's figuring is bad news for presumed hopefuls like Rep. Mike Pence, Sen. Jim DeMint, ex-Gov. Mitt Romney, former Speaker Newt Gingrich, Gov. Haley Barbour, and former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton. Many simply joined the game too late, says Brown, author of the new book Jockeying for the American Presidency: The Political Opportunism of Aspirants, which studies every election since the founding. Others, like DeMint, are still brewing but won't be ready until 2016. As for Newt? "I don't think the GOP can forgive him," she says.
The book devises an "opportunism variable" based on the candidate's résumé to explain who wins the presidency and why. Palin has an advantage because she has been elected both mayor and governor. She also was a major party vice presidential nominee, giving her an enviable breadth of political experience. According to Brown, candidates who take risks and run for a variety of offices do well. It's even better if they lose a presidential race or two. "It takes about a run and a half to get there," Brown says. Pols "may think they can get it done in six months or a year, but [winning] will actually take them running, losing, and planting seeds," she says.

“The graphic at #32 is offensive. And if having that pointed out ‘bothers’ you, that’s just Tango Sierra.”
You have a bad day at work today? You are getting really worked up over something that was meant as an attempt at humor and it wasn’t even directed at you.
great graphics !
LOL, have at it, it seems that you have moved from terror of the picture, to embracing it, that is good, I’m sure that you will have much more to say about it in your rambling posts.
It isn’t about politics with these guys.
My disagreements are mainly with Palin's rabid followers, who insist on putting her on a pedestal. They truly believe that someone who quit after half a term as governor of the 4th least populous state is qualified to be POTUS.
It’s amazing how many PDSers believe Palin’s endorsement was the key to McCain winning. McCain had a huge campaign fund. I sent JD $50 but, let’s face the facts: he was a marginal candidate who had a history of earmarks. Once the “free money” informercial became public, he was “dead man walking.”
Had JD lost by less than 5% I would agree the Palin endorsement was a factor, but he got killed.
I don't have a candidate. And in looking at the current field, I might not have one at all. I might end up holding my nose and voting for the GOP nominee.
She has always been eminently suitable for POTUS. And she has proven it betond doubt since her resignation. We can't help it if you are slow at accepting reality.
As I wrote in my previous post to you that you ignored, what has your candidate done to compare to Palin?
Good grief...
Give it a rest, would'ya? No one reading this thread believes that Onyx meant for that image to convey a threat of real harm to anyone, including YOU.
You don't believe that Sarah Palin can step into Reagan's boots and move the ball downfield, but that's simply your opinion. The vast majority of center-right voters in this country see the same basic qualities in Sarah Palin as they saw in Ronaldus Magnus, and they are spot on.
Sarah can't possibly have the exact same life experiences that Reagan did in 1978, but she's got enough similarity of track with him, and shares an almost identical strain of character traits, that the differences are inconsequential.
What's most important, is that she's cut from the same type of timber that he was, as were those who set this country on its course to greatness. The people see this, and that is why she will be our 45th President.
You and your small rabble of anti-Palinistas can rail all you want against her coming elevation to the presidency, but it will happen, whether you want it to, or not. It's simply where our near-term history is headed.
Well that seems very principled. That seems really energized. Perhaps you just are not following politics?
You know? Obama? Liberal takeover? Tea Party? Change the GOP?
Sounds like you are on the wrong site. Certainly seems like you want to infuse everyone else with your boredom too.
Too bad. We like Palin. We are principled. We are energized.
And you don't care much about anything?
Revving up your posse, eh? Only cowards do that.
You don’t need a posse, if you speak the truth.
I don't need to rev them up. They're already doing just fine on this thread. I'm just joking with them.
I’ve just become disillusioned in politicians in general over the years. That’s all.
"My disagreements are mainly with Palin's rabid followers, who insist on putting her on a pedestal."
Evening, you have said that before over the months, that is the very definition of a troll, someone that is not involved in the threads, but merely wants to annoy the posters and hijack them.
Oh no! I see that Rabadash has sent out one of his favorite attack dogs: Messup. Hey Messup, why don’t you take a long walk off of a short pier? Oh no! Going by your kooky interpretations, I just issued a death threat, huh?
Why don't you honestly study everything else Sarah Palin has said and done, then put your question into that informed perspective?
That's the only way you'll come to some understanding of it. You might also want to come to grips with some basic realities of politics, while you're at it.
I don't know what to tell you, except that it takes an adult's sense of judgment and a child's sense of point blank reality to see what you're trying to see. Most of our folks have the faculties to do this. I'll bet you can too, if you work at it.
I think Bolton would make a much better Secretary of State. Of course he would have to fire everyone and start from scratch.
Under that defeiniton, I’m no more a troll than you are. And I certainly haven’t hijacked any threads. You folks always have your say.
