Specter rages against 'extremists' in GOP
Republican-turned-Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania said Tuesday that the "nation's business is floundering" because moderate Republicans "have fallen like flies at the hands of extremists, calling Christine O'Donnell's primary victory in Delaware "stunning" and implying she is incompetent.
In an oddly timed and strongly-worded speech, Specter took aim at the Republican Party, which he claimed has "changed the most ideologically" and took not-so-veiled shots at colleague Jim DeMint, who has emerged as the champion of the conservative electorate.
"Within days of the start of the Obama administration, before the ink was dry on his oath of office, Republicans openly bragged about plans to 'break' him and engineer his 'Waterloo,'" Specter said. "Announcing that ideological purity was more important than obtaining a majority, the prevailing Republican motto was 'Wed rather have 30 Marco Rubios in the Senate than 50 Arlen Specters.'"
Both the comments about Obama's "Waterloo" and Marco Rubio, the conservative candidate who won the GOP nomination for Senate in Florida, were made by DeMint.
Specter who lost the Pennsylvania Democratic primary after switching parties last year also lamented the primary losses of Republicans Bob Bennett in Utah, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and established Congressman Mike Castle in Delaware.

Um, Arlen, these so called "extremists" aren't even in office yet. The reason the "nation's business is floundering" is because scuzball RINO's like you and Mike Castle are in cahoots with the socialist's who are ripping this country apart with their failed policies. Go take a hike.
Sometimes I forget how gratifying to see Specter out of the chamber for good come January 2011. I doubt though that GWB and Santorum feel the same way.
Not to quibble, but Specter’s last re-election was 2004 when Bush rode in to save his sorry rear-end from a beating by Pat Toomey, the guy who is finally going to replace him this year if we have can have a reasonably honest election and minimize the voter fraud in Philly.
Sorry! And that government growing Bush actually went against Toomey in favor of Specter? Hard to believe conservatives have put up with the way they have been treated as long as they have. Damn RINOs. Rove and Bush. King RINOs.
“Specter was elected to the Senate in 1980.”
Correct, but he started out as a Democrat in local politics.
Right. Wasn’t criticizing. Adding to.
Cool! Wish I could go back to sleep!
That’s true. Good riddance to bad rubbish.................
