Specter rages against 'extremists' in GOP
Republican-turned-Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania said Tuesday that the "nation's business is floundering" because moderate Republicans "have fallen like flies at the hands of extremists,” calling Christine O'Donnell's primary victory in Delaware "stunning" and implying she is incompetent.
In an oddly timed and strongly-worded speech, Specter took aim at the Republican Party, which he claimed has "changed the most ideologically" and took not-so-veiled shots at colleague Jim DeMint, who has emerged as the champion of the conservative electorate.
"Within days of the start of the Obama administration, before the ink was dry on his oath of office, Republicans openly bragged about plans to 'break' him and engineer his 'Waterloo,'" Specter said. "Announcing that ideological purity was more important than obtaining a majority, the prevailing Republican motto was 'We’d rather have 30 Marco Rubios in the Senate than 50 Arlen Specters.'"
Both the comments about Obama's "Waterloo" and Marco Rubio, the conservative candidate who won the GOP nomination for Senate in Florida, were made by DeMint.
Specter — who lost the Pennsylvania Democratic primary after switching parties last year— also lamented the primary losses of Republicans Bob Bennett in Utah, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and established Congressman Mike Castle in Delaware.

If a majority agree with your opponent, then by definition you are in the minority and the extremest and your opponent is mainstream.

PA is already better off knowing Specter will no longer be warming one of our Senate seats. I guess hoping he actually goes away to never darken our door again is too much to ask. The other dolt Casey is next.

And let’s not forget his condescending remark to Michelle Bachmann, telling her to ‘act like a lady’. Had me seeing red. That’s what they think of these strong Republican women...and they can’t stand what is happening to their good ‘ol boys’ club.

Who’s the jackass that bothered recording his comments in the first place? Has-beens aren’t of any interest to most people...he’ll end his days in a quiet room, spittle flying from his lips while screaming to no one in particular that he “used to be somebody”. Pathetic.

Specter could have supported the victor in the primary against him and retired with dignity. Even been a sort of elder statesman of RINOdom. He deserves no respect now in terms of his career.
Specter was elected to the Senate in 1980.
He rode in on Reagan’s coattails. A better man might have been in his place in elections in ‘80 with Reagan, ‘86 with Reagan, ‘90 with Bush, ‘02 with Bush . . . plenty of opportunities to pick up that seat for a conservative in all those years. Shows the danger of letting a RINOs nose under the tent. Locks a conservative out for too, too long.
The TEA Party was his ‘Magic Bullet’ much as he made up the same theory for the JFK murder commission.. It stung him goood. He never saw it coming. Just move on, aRlen.
