Iran unveiled three squadrons of new flying boats on Tuesday, Iranian news agencies reported. The craft, dubbed the Bavar 2, is armed with a machine gun and carries surveillance cameras, according to a report from the Iranian Student News Agency. "Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the few countries which managed to design, build and use flying boats in a short time," said Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, who oversaw the delivering of the aircraft at the Bandar Abbas naval facility on the Persian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz.

Flying boat? Maybe it’s really a floating airplane.
To: AngelesCrestHighway
phalanx guns are primarily designed for airborne threats but have proven to be effective on surface threats as well.

Sort reminds of the old Grumman Widgeon. But that craft was far superior to these POS.
These airplanes(boats, whatever)look like they’re designed to shoot down Canada geese.

Haha! Toy planes with a machine gun ... and all this time we thought they were developing nukes.
Whatever will we do to defend ourselves against this impressive new technology? I guess we’ll have to develop armaments that could sink a boat AND/OR knock down a plane.
Good grief.

Consisting of a radar-guided 20mm Gatling gun mounted on a swivelling base, the Phalanx is used by the United States Navy on every class of surface combat ship, by the United States Coast Guard aboard its Hamilton and Legend class cutters and the navies of 23 allied nations.

Looks like an a ekranoplan / WIG (wing in ground) or Ground Effect Vehicle.
See Caspian Sea Monster
as a see borne strike aircraft it could be useful same role as a OSA II series boat if it has decent missiles. Fast and low a good combination for a low cost low tech strike vehicle.

Dead man flying? Ouch, should the ballon go up in Iran, I would seriously think about going AWOL before jumping into that contraption. I am pretty sure our drones could take them down without breaking a sweat.

I wonder if you could take these things out with the shock wave from a low pass sonic boom?
Why waste ammo!
