A testy U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry yesterday blamed clueless voters with short attention spans for the uphill battle beleaguered Democrats are facing against Republicans across the nation.
We have an electorate that doesnt always pay that much attention to whats going on so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or whats happening, Kerry told reporters after touring the Boston Medical Center yesterday.
Conservative political blogger William Jacobson, who writes Legal Insurrection, immediately pounced on Kerrys comments, saying that attitude is why voters are looking to shake up Capitol Hill by electing upstart candidates such as U.S. Sen. Scott Brown.
It just continues the Democrats theme that the reason people are upset is because they dont understand. Theyre not smart enough. That sort of rhetoric just gets people even more upset, said Jacobson.
Democratic consultant Phil Johnston, former chairman of the state party, jumped to Kerrys defense, saying, Thats absurd. Hes just making the point that people have real lives to lead and most people are not spending a lot of time worrying about politics, particularly in a tough economy. Ive known John Kerry for 35 years and he doesnt look down on people.
Kerry made the remarks on voters following questions about U.S. Rep Barney Franks re-election campaign and queries about securing federal funding for the Hub hospital.
I think a lot of the anger today - while its appropriate because Washington is broken - is not directed at the right people, said Kerry. Barney is prepared, as others are, to explain what were doing. I think when people hear the facts and they see what were doing, it frankly makes sense.
In the interview, Kerry added that voters should be mad at stonewalling Republicans and big money in politics instead, referring to a bill blocked by Republicans Thursday that would reveal corporate and union leaders who fund big-bucks political ads.
He went on to blame the legislative logjam in Washington, D.C., for fewer federal dollars sent to the state.
John Feehery, a Washington D.C.-based Republican consultant, said Kerrys comments mark yet another embarrassing stumble for the gaffe-prone senior senator. In 2006, the former presidential candidate had to apologize for a statement he made at a California college that U.S. students who did not study hard and stay in school would end up stuck in Iraq.
I think that arrogance sums up why John Kerry didnt get elected president, Feehery said. Hes out of touch.
Bingo! My post pointed out, with two prime examples, that true Conservatives should distance themselves from RINO's and Country Clubbers. Let them defend their own actions, like Medicare Part D and the multi-hundred billion dollar boondoggle it has become. Is it really that different from Obamacare? Socialism is Socialism, regardless of party affiliation. Last time I checked, Conservatism didn't include support for Socialist gubmint give-a-ways......
You’re right! The comments are priceless!
” Thanks to the Social Media of the internet and more variety of News channels on cable American are more informed.
Liberals are bemoaning the fact they no longer control the context of information being feed to the masses. “
Thank God!
Further proof that our elected officials really view us as Homer Simpson.
I think they’re yearbook pictures.
Oh, Lord, thank You for our opponents.
I can’t see the correlation between having a PhD & being smart. Some people who have PhDs are not complete idiots but I consider that random chance.
Kerry wouldn’t know “truth” if it walked right up to him and slapped him in his sissy face.
LOL
Thanks for the ping. Yes, attacking the voters is always a good strategy for electoral success.
I think it would be great if people would start going up to Kerry and asking him who he is.
Thanks for the ping. The words haven’t been invented yet to describe how arrogant, snobbish, entitled and clueless Kerry is. If Rove had gone after him with half the energy he’s already expended on O’Donnell the election wouldn’t even have been close.
“Didnt John Kerry serve in Viet Nam?”
I hadn’t heard that ... but he’s the kind of guy who wouldn’t mention it ... strong silent type.
I see that we have another comedian in Congress. One of our problems is that the Congress does not pay that much attention to what's going on. They pass bills without reading them. They pass bills without paying attention to the people who elected them. That is John Kerry for sure!
Remember his record: “Kerry then told the students that if they were able to navigate the education system, they could get comfortable jobs - If you dont, you get stuck in Iraq.....
Traitor Kerry says we are ALL clueless.
I can think of 58,000 guys and gals that I would have liked to had seen return home to seek the American dream and live out their lives... instead of this traitorous bastard.
If I get lucky and outlive this sissified lying bug, I will spend what ever money I have and can find, and I will do whatever it takes to find my way to his grave and piss on it. I will stand on his grave and have a beer and then piss on it again.
This is coming from a man that believed that the American Public could be persuaded into voting for him by donning a rubber unitard and windsurfing in the days prior to the election rather than hitting the stump and articulating his ideas.

“John Heinz III owned the yacht, or at least the money required to buy it. Teresa and Kerry are just the parasites living off his wealth. “
The Heinz kids must have some heavy, therapy-required issues. Imagine that your wealthy, respected Republican father dies and then shortly after John Kerry moves in to the house and proceeds to piss your inheritance on tanning beds, wind-surfboards, rubber unitards, motorcycles and yachts.
