Colombia Shows Mexico How To Do It

Victory: Colombia's army blew away the field marshal of FARC's narco-terror war Wednesday, showing with a jolt that to win, it's terrorists who must "absorb" attacks, not innocents. Mexico and the U.S. have much to learn.

Seems the adage that Colombia is the only country where guerrillas die of old age isn't true anymore.

On Thursday, Colombia celebrated news of the demise of Jorge Briceno, military commander and second-highest chief of FARC. The 57-year-old terrorist went down in a hail of bombs and gunfire over three days in a jungle bunker near La Macarena.

The Colombian army suffered no deaths and left at least 20 guerrillas dead on the jungle floor. Briceno's demise marks the fourth knockout of FARC's seven-man "Politburo"since 2008.

"This is the most crushing blow against the FARC in its entire history," said Colombia's president, Juan Manuel Santos, speaking from the sidelines at the United Nations in New York.

To every other nation out there fighting a terror war, it's a lesson showing how it can be done.

First, it shows that in winning, history and continuity matter to the enemy. FARC, a Marxist terror group, has plagued Colombia since 1964. Briceno joined in 1975 and introduced cocaine trafficking to FARC's activities, extending the war.

Colombia got a lot of support from the US mililtary (against the will of the Dems) in the fight against the narco-terrorists, who were the chief funding stream for FARC and ELN.

Calderon came to the US and appealed to Bambi for that same help for Mexico, and I hate to say it, but Freepers jeered and accused him of “mooching.” Needless to say, Obama didn’t give it to him anyway, so it didn’t matter in the long run. Obama is cool with left-wing drug terrorists. Or any other kind.

But Colombia fought long and hard for years, and we helped significantly.

The Colombian narco-terrorists are real bad apples. They have some methods and techniques that would make Al-Qaida gasp. This is a huge kill for Colombia. The 8 Bush years were good to them, they are reaping some of the benefits.

We did fund the Merida initiative. But you are right. The problem with Mexico is that they are really reluctant to accept our boots-on-the-ground help. They want money and arms. Colombia wasn’t so picky, and we had people down there who trained the Colombians and helped take down Pablo Escobar.

Huge difference between the two cultures. mexico never has been a functioning country. The perfect storm for Colombia was help from the US, Uribe and the people themselves. You will never see that happen in mexico.

>>mexico never has been a functioning country.<<

I have held that opinion for fifty years and been yelled at numerous times for saying it in public. This nonsense of attempting to arrest drug terrorists instead of just killing them is ridiculous. It shows me that the government officials are involved in the drug racket. Use the military and kill anyone who is causing nationwide problems.

Why should Mexicans stand up for their country when they can just run north for free gubmint goodies and untaxed employment? Lock that border down tight, stem the remittances south and the drugs north, and you’ll see something different happen to the narcos. Pronto!
