Producers of the hit children's TV show Sesame Street have canceled an appearance by pop singer Katy Perry following feedback from parents.
Perry, who rose to stardom in 2008 with the No. 1 single, "I Kissed A Girl, was set to appear on the premiere of the show's 41st season on Sept 27.
But after a segment of the show appeared online on Monday Sesame Workshop, which produces the show, decided not to air it.
"In light of the feedback we've received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on YouTube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of Sesame Street, which is aimed at preschoolers," the show said in a statement, adding it valued the opinions of viewers, particularly parents.
The segment features Perry singing a rendition of her 2008 single "Hot N Cold" to the Muppet Elmo. The song, originally about an elusive lover, was rewritten for the clip.
The producers said the show, which has a long history of working with actors, athletes, musicians and artists, has always been written on two levels -- for the child and adult.
"We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show because we know that a child learns best when co-viewing with a parent or care-giver," the producers said.
Perry is not the first celebrity to be pulled from the show. A music video featuring singer Chris Brown was canceled in February when Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting his former girlfriend Rihanna.
Perry's hit song "California Gurls," the lead single from her current album, Teenage Dream, was named Billboard's song of the U.S. summer season.

NPR did everything they could think of for them. Long story on All Things Considered, segment on one of the weekend shows (On The Media, maybe), and also IIRC a segment on one of the "independent" American Public Radio shows that are carried on a lot of public-radio stations. To The Best Of Our Knowledge or one of those. They may have gotten a spot on A Prarie Home Companion too.
Lefty media really pulled out all the stops for them. Of course the only reason they paid them the slightest heed was because it was a way to poke a stick in Bush's eye. They played up the political angle, not the musical value of the group.
Problem is, lefty radio has a miniscule audience of total true believers. You're not going to win over anyone to your point of view there. Plus the whole lefty media system is so rife with careerism, nepotism, political correctness and wierd (that is, non-talent-based) hiring criteria that it has become practically unlistenable unless you are in need psychological support from like-minded bitter-enders.

OK, she has a nice rack. Solid 7 on the scale and uninspiring. I'd prolly give her a 7.5 if I didn't know she was such a mental midget.
I also thought that until their big interview ( 60 Minutes? ). The girls supported Maines' statements but it wasn't wholehearted almost as if to say " What else are we going to do?" Never heard those two comment again on the anti Bush drivel since then.
Most celebs are liberal, period. The fair comparison is to see if the proportion of left-vs-right celebs in general is approximately the same as the proportion of Sesame Street guests.
I listen to Country Music stations from Nashville to St Pete. I've never heard a Dixie Chicks song - not once. Why worry a lick about them when there's Miranda Lambert? She's country, talented and very very hot.
Once you see one pair, you want to see ‘em all.

Didn't he move to the Clinton campaign, then Clinton White House, then ABC news office where he aided candidate Barack Obama?
Also, Katy’s parents are Christian Ministers. What on earth causes the daughter to adopt liberalism.
Granted, she’s hot, but ugh. another lib.
Yup. You are right. They tried everything to keep their careers afloat. I bet SEIU or ACORN or Fem women group (Rush calls em NAGS) probably distributed free tickets to their shows for a while.
They also got Grammy Awards and tons of lib publicity including NPR.
I think the only thing a C&W star could have done to hurt themselves more if they said they hated Jesus or maybe Elvis.
And Big Bird (Caroll Spinney) ran a nudist camp in northeastern Connecticut.
I don’t know. She kinda has that “standing in a prairie dress, next to her husband’s other wives” look
She’s hot!
You musta posted somthin’ I cain’t see at work. I bet it’s good tho.
