If you had to make a choice between open carry and CCW permits which would you rather have?

Concealed. I’d rather not be knocked on the head from behind because I’ve got a gun on my hip.

I actually think CC prevents crime, since a potential criminal isn’t quite sure of the risks an illegal activity might involve. It just might make them think twice.

CCW without permit, as several states are in the process of implementing.

The element of surprise is important.

A concealed carry permit would be best, if I had to choose. Fortunately, open carry in Ohio is legal without a permit, so I can (and do) carry however I choose.

My number one preference in no permit for either open or concealed. That’s why I love AZ! I personally prefer to carry concealed, I like the element of surprise!

CC. We have some guys here pushing the limits of our laws, which is their right, and I’m glad to see it!

MILWAUKEE — Wisconsin Carry, a gun rights group, plans to file a lawsuit against the Madison Police Department after five men were charged for openly carrying weapons.

The men wore their guns as the ate at a Culver’s Restaurant in Madison over the weekend.

A 62-year-old woman called police saying she felt uneasy.

She told officers the men were not doing anything wrong but that she was rattled.

Officers initially arrested two men for not showing identification.

Those charges have now been dropped. In their place all five men were cited for disorderly conduct.

I agree. Open carry makes you the first target for someone looking to commit a crime.

Both. With no “permits” required for either one. One should not be restricted to “mutually exclusive” “options” which require “permission” from the government.

I already have a concealed carry permit, but I think I'd love to walk around occasionally with my Ruger Vaquero Bisleys displayed ostentatiously on my pistolero belt.... :<)

....maybe while wearing a serape and smoking a cigar....

CC, no doubt.
For all of the above reasons, plus no matter how much we educate, there will always be a portion of the population who will have a melt-down at the sight of a weapon. The melt-down may very well include a 911 call.
Who needs the hassle?

CCW without permit is the best. Because WITH permit means that the government has you on a list of people who own guns. Not good. I have friends who carry concealed but don’t have the required permits because they don’t want to be on the list.

both are necessary for various reasons.

I feel under certain circumstances open carry might encite fights...(though I do not believe govt has a right to make that determination)

in a country setting open carry would be a good thing...

CC is better in crowded urban areas as if dirt bags know that a good chunk of the populace is carrying, they might think twice before robbing people....

I have a CCW, but do not believe that they are constitutional....as the right to keep and bear arms does not spell out the necessity that you need a 2nd right to keep and bear arms...it is already there....

Concealed is always your best option. When faced with a threat condition, the uncertainty of your attacker as to whether you are armed is a powerful tactical advantage in your favor. Knowing that you are armed might prevent them from assaulting you, but it may just as easily change their approach from direct confrontation to surprise attack.
