A former Food and Drug Administration official who helped get the vision correction surgery LASIK approved back in the 1990s but later spoke out against the procedure is taking his concerns directly to current regulators at the FDA.
Morris Waxler, who is now an independent regulatory consultant, filed a citizens petition today urging the agency to take steps to stop what he calls "the epidemic of permanent vision problems" caused by LASIK.
Waxler's petition implores the FDA to take actions to crack down on the procedure, including issuing a public health advisory that warns the public about the dangers associated with LASIK and implementing stricter controls over LASIK device manufacturers and practitioners who perform the surgery.

I know many people who have had it; half of them go back to the early 90’s. Never heard anything from any of them except that I’m stupid for putting it off.
Basically, whatever the media reports on is either a lie or a non-issue.
I stubbed my toe yesterday. I should go to Congress and get me a law that says all shoes should have a steel toe for protection.
RE: As far as I understand it, LASIK is one of the sectors of the health industry run mostly on consumer-driven free market principles since it is not usually covered by insurance.
From its early commercialization over 10 years ago, the price of LASIK procedure per eye has DROPPED by over 100% because of increasing competition.
If only we had something similar for other medical procedures...

Lasic doctors always provide a list of possible side effects and google lasik always shows you lots of horror stories of halo vision or infections. I would not get it even if I was a candidate.
You beat me, I'm only 20-15. But considering that I'm 50, I'd be wearing reading glasses anyway. But for the past 14 years I have not had to wear glasses to enjoy everyday life.
This seems like nothing more but for a way in which the Gov't can exact further 'control' over everyday people's lives.

Try contacting the best names in your area and see if they give you the same answer. I had the same problem in my late 40’s.
My Dr did most of the celebs in the Bay Area and out of 12k customers, only had one minor problem.
Of course it cost 4k back in 2000 but my eyes are my job.
I had LASIK done back in 2004. My vision was at 20/600 and I had worn glasses since I was about 10. LASIK was a blessing for me. I haven’t had any problems in the last 6 years except for going from 20/20 in both eyes to 20/25 in my right.
They can now zap floaters with a laser and bust them up.
The sharks must not be biting this summer(?)
I had LASIK in 2000, no issues, my vision has drifted back to 20/30 but I can at least find my glasses over the 20/800 it used to be.

I can’t be him, I am just stating history, the link you provided has him trying to predict the future (wrongly of course ).
Going on two years in January. Over 40 so I opted for the mono-vision where they fix one eye for distance and one for up close. After a very short time, your brain does the work and uses the better eye depending on the focal point. Works wonderfully. 20/15 and love the freedom (water sports, golfing, etc.) it gives me. I can see the alarm clock in the middle of the night, and no contact crap when traveling. Got myself a pair of spectacles for driving at night only to balance both eyes for distance. Way better than before. No complaints here.
Freakin FDA is putting the folks who did the Spanish Inquisition to shame!!
My wife and I both got LASIK in 1998 and it was one of the best things that ever happened to either of us. My wife has little halo vision problem, but it isn’t terribly bad. She also has dry eyes, but she had that before the LASIK.
Unlike Lasik a contacts prescription can easily be changed over the years. While the odds are good with surgery, the cost of failure is off the charts. For conservative me, no thanks.

I dont qualify either. I always say I will be the last person on earth wearing glasses.
(Have also been wearing ‘em since I was five).
