Gore looked ridiculous. Stewart, on the other hand, seems to understand himself. He knows who he is. I'm really not sure that Colbert can say the same thing.
Wha? Testifying in character? Then it is not real.
Having Dee Snyder and John Denver testify on music labeling was legitimate use of celebrities. This appears to be little more than a stunt.
What’s next, Jeff Dunham and Achmed the dead terrorist?
Stephen Colbert was invited by Zoe Lofgren (D-CA)
I just spoke to a Republican member of the Subcommittee and they are NOT happy! In fact, they think the Democrats have lost their minds!
Record foreclosures, record poverty, record deficit, high unemployment...perfect time for jokes on the taxpayer’s dime.
Geez, Al Franken is an elected US senator and we’re surprised Colbert would be called to testify before congress?
Well, the rest of their tenure has been a joke...having a comedian appear fits the mold!!!
I just spoke to somone in the office of the Subcommittee. He said that the President of the United Farm Workers went on Stephen Colbert’s show to advertise the “Take our jobs campaign” and invited Colbert to join him in the fields to “experience the day in the life of a farm worker”.
That is what Colbert is going to testify about tomorrow.
The number to the Subcommittee is: 202-225-3926

TAKE OUR JOBS CAMPAIGN
There are two issues facing our nation—high unemployment and undocumented people in the workforce—that many Americans believe are related.
Missing from the debate on both issues is an honest recognition that the food we all eat - at home, in restaurants and workplace cafeterias (including those in the Capitol) - comes to us from the labor of undocumented farm workers.
Agriculture in the United States is dependent on an immigrant workforce. Three-quarters of all crop workers working in American agriculture were born outside the United States. According to government statistics, since the late 1990s, at least 50% of the crop workers have not been authorized to work legally in the United States.
We are a nation in denial about our food supply. As a result the UFW has initiated the “Take Our Jobs” campaign.
Farm workers are ready to welcome citizens and legal residents who wish to replace them in the field. We will use our knowledge and staff to help connect the unemployed with farm employers. Just fill out the form to the right and continue on to the request for job application.

TAKE ACTION:
Exciting News. UFW President Arturo Rodriguez was on Comedy Central’s Colbert Report talking about the UFW’s Take Our Jobs campaign. If you haven’t see it please watch the video.
Sheila Jackson Lee & Maxine Waters are on this subcommittee so why would any one be surprised.
I hear that Lady Gaga is available for testimony on the defense authorization bill. I’m sure she’ll dress appropriately.
Both tools for the Democratic Party...
And AL Franken is an elected rep from Minn..
You can't make this stuff up.. as Bizarro as D.C. reality..
Oh! and Delaware might elect a virtual Marxist as Senator..
Progressive Screwls have finally driven America crazy...
Of course, the illegal alien farm workers are making five to ten times what they could make in their home nation, and they don't mean one word of this. And farm workers should be in a temporary worker program to begin with. It's just more convenient and cheaper (and ignored by our government) when all concerned pretend there are no pertinent laws.
This is a stupid ruse because if citizens did start replacing them, we'd probably have riot on our hands.
What they are doing is very simple. Colbert is a character used to mock conservative principles. By having him testify in character, it lets them marginalize the conservative view re illegal immigration. Then they can take his statements and positions and attribute them to real conservatives and pin them to them. Very Alinsky-esque.
Just what kind of expert is he or gaga for that matter?
This is part and parcel with the situation in our world. Celebrities, by virtue of their celebrity, know more than the rest of us educated, tax-paying folks and, because of their celebrity, their opinions, however uninformed and juvenile, are given tremendous weight. This stunt is for the masses. Congress knows many people hold Colbert in high esteem and, therefore, will listen to “reason.” I wonder if he intends to read from a script or just ad-lib.
Pitchforks and torches, tar and feathers.
We have turned into a banana republic. Congress is a joke.
