A new poll shows California voters strongly support proposals to allow the Bush tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans to expire -- and overwhelmingly favor policies that allow the middle class to keep more of their earnings instead.
The statewide poll was taken by the Democratic polling firm of Greenberg Quinlan and Rosner for the SEIU. Hardly non-partisan, but Greenberg is well-respected; and the poll has good news for Democratic U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer -- in the middle of a tough re-election battle with Republican Carly Fiorina -- as she backs an end the tax cuts to the rich.
The poll also provides Democrats with a broad blueprint of how to most effectively shape their message heading toward November on the issue. The conclusion from Greenberg, according to a memo obtained by the Chronicle: the party's strongest possible message this fall is that "middle class families and small businesses are the backbone of the economy,'' and the Obama Administration proposal will cut taxes for them and "give them more money to spend" while it "helps the economy, creates jobs, and lowers the deficit."
The poll was conducted Sept. 8-13 among 400 likely voters in California, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.

And those who aren't - i.e., the producers - are going elsewhere.
Well SFGate can say whatever it wants, I don’t know one person who wants their taxes to go up in January.
To listen to these folks, you’d think the IRS was the best agency of the government according to Leftists.
How many Leftists do you know that like the IRS?
These folks could word a poll so that the public would say that the sun is cold and the moon is what really causes crops to flourish.
The prevailing California mindset which in large part created the current economic situation out there.
My recommendation is, PLEASE keep it up, California and continue chasing out those e-e-e-evil rich people! Virginia will be most happy to welcome them and their businesses here. We LIKE economic prosperity!
Ditto here as well re: my comment as well.
Ditto that FRiend
Good. Let ‘em expire for California only (unless MA, NY and ILL\ want them to expire too.)
“The bottom line is that Californians LOVE taxes, just as long as some else is paying them.”
Bullshit!
From The Article as I used to say at another site: “The statewide poll was taken by the Democratic polling firm of Greenberg Quinlan and Rosner for the SEIU.”
I’d love to read the way the questions were worded, and presented to the public being polled, and I’d like to see the answers from those polled to see just how this Democratic polling firm for the SEIU arrived at their results.
Guaranteed if the SEIU hired a Democrat polling firm to come up with the answers they want, they got ‘em.
A recent Poll by ‘Values Polling Service’ shows that 53% of Californians think that it is okay to sleep with your sister, while 42% were opposed. The other 5% remained undecided (I can make up questions and numbers too).
BS. This poll was taken in downtown San Francisco during a coalition meeting of GLADD and the homeless.
BLAME THE GOP for this ignorance
Public education on facts should be job ONE for what passes as the “other” party
Bush tax cuts created wealth, boosted federal revenue, added 8 million jobs to economy - historic growth

Bush tax cuts led to rich paying MORE tax. When the rich get richer- they PAY MORE TAX.

An interesting figure to see is the individual Californian’s part of the California debt added to the individual Californian’s part of the national debt.
I certainly like the idea that if a state thinks they federal government should get more of their money, then they can just send it on, as long as they leave the rest of us alone. You can just go right ahead. My state sends more money up there than yours does anyway!
Isn't that true of ALL democrats?
Well a poll run by democrats for democrats with only 400 people isn’t worth much. Who and where they poll is critical allowing the poller to get any results they want.
The SEIU wants people to believe taxes are good for the economy because taxes are their paychecks.
This poll is simply propaganda.
Good LORD
I knew the “ rich” pay a huge portion of income taxes but this information put out by the CBO is ridiculous.
The public needs to see this. If the idiots really understood that by keeping the tax cuts for ll it would mean more income taxes and probably even more that they would get back on EITC
thank you for posting that importatn info
Let’s build a wall as part of our infra structure build out. It should be along the western border of Arizona and Nevada. It may become important when California inevitably falls into chaos and anarchy. To let anyone escape back into the real United States, they should have to pass a conservative aptitude test.
Considering that Californians are brilliant, absolutely brilliant, it must be true that tax cuts hurt the economy.
(Yup, leftist/progressive/liberal Democrats are brilliant, absolutely brilliant.)
/sarcasm/
IMHO
No one wants his own taxes to go up (well, maybe a few committed leftists do), but plenty of people don’t mind if someone else gets screwed—that’s been the Obama political calculation all along (profit by whipping up resentment against other people who are richer). That’s Obama’s “base.” Have the evil millionaires pay for the goodies they want from the government.
How much could we get if we sold CA to Mexico?
I agree.
I don’t buy this poll though.
Bush tax cuts = bad... Obama tax cuts = good.
Sounds perfectly logical to me.
