Washington, D.C. Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement after Republicans blocked a cloture motion that would have opened debate on the Defense Authorization bill funding critical assistance for our troops:
Republicans are again playing politics with our national security. Today they blocked the Senate from debating a bill that would give our troops the resources they need to keep America safe stopping not only funding for combat vehicles and bulletproof vests or measures to improve our militarys readiness, but even a well-earned pay raise to help our troops and their families make ends meet.
I am disappointed that my Republican colleagues put partisan politics ahead of the best interests of the men and women who courageously defend our nation. Democrats will continue to fight for our troops and will work to ensure that our troops have the resources they need to do their jobs.
Military is being gutted, Tricare is getting fees. Dems are in control and have the votes to over ride any GOP filibuster.
People on his side don’t look that closely.
Republicans are playing politics? Was he not playing politics when he added The Dream Act and the repeal of DADT to a defense bill? He only did it because he was sure it would pass. I think they shouldn’t be allowed to piggy back these different bills. Each piece of legislation should have to be passed on it’s own merits. I think it would cut a lot of waste on garbage that gets passed because of this game.
I got a campaign donation for the first Senator to walk up to this weasel and clock him in the jaw.
Most Dems are running for the hills on this vote!
What an Obama-hole!
Actually what they can’t wait for is the purging of Christians from the ranks.
When the conscience of the military is gone, it can be used for anything, including a general purge of the “ungovernable” in our own country.
Harry Reid’s Military experience:
He was a boxer while he attended Basic (Basic High School)
and he worked with an Ensign (Sen. John Ensign)
IMHO public officials with NO MILITARY SERVICE should NOT be permitted to vote on Military bills, especially those that impact on morale and readiness. They should be limited to voting on ordnance funding only.

The real question is, “Who is this stupidity aimed at”? Certainly not his leech base. They couldn’t care less about the troops. Pro-military demscum? Maybe all dozen or so of ‘em left.
That leaves conservatives and the fGOP. But surely he knows we aren’t stupid enough to fall for this, right?
Maybe not. He’s used to getting away with pure BS when preaching to his base. He also probably has read about the “rift” between conservatives and the GOP. I think he’s trying to pour fuel on that fire.
If that’s the case, Dingy Harry really just isn’t all that smart. As in he’s an out of touch idiot with no understanding of what’s going on outside the beltway...
Harry, that’s right up there with your accusation that Rush Limbaugh was against the military when he used the phrase “phony soldiers”.
YOU LYING SACK!
YOU screwed the pooch, here!
YOU loaded that bill up with crap that killed it!
YOU set the whole thing up to fail!
YOU are the obstacle!
YOU are the point of failure!
And YOU are too small a man to own it!
Pro-illegal immigration language in a defense spending bill...why? YOU and your despicable Democrat shenanigans; THAT'S why!
Pro-gay language in a defense spending bill...why? YOU and your damnable Democrat shenanigans; THAT'S why!
YOU and your ilk engineered this failure from the beginning, and NOW, when the bill has been stonewalled, you have the temerity to blame the Republicans?
WHAT A CROCK!!
There you sit engaging in this disgusting partisan chicanery at the expense of our troops in the field, and you have the unchecked gall to lob blame at the Republican minority for opposing your intentional attempt at stupidity?
WHAT AN INVIDIOUS CREEP YOU ARE!
Do you really think that We, The People actually WANT MORE of YOUR crap? YOU think we're just a nation of masochists who have nothing better to do than sit and wait to absorb the consequences of whatever idiocy you puke up next?
GET LOST YOU FOOL!!
You and your cohorts rank right up there with Monica's blue dress as a permanent stain on the political history of The United States. Your presence in the Senate demeans the entire institution. That you are a United States Senator is a ringing condemnation of the State of Nevada.
I pray that your fellow Nevadans wake up, and clear their good names by sending you down to flaming defeat in November; the soil of this nation should not have to bear the blight of your political career a single moment longer.
Are they saying the troops need a sexually open Barney Frank in the front-lines with them "to do their jobs?"
>>He voted AGAINST this bill!<<
Sharon Angle should come up with some way to use this in a campaign ad.
Harry Reid himself was a NO vote. I don’t care the reason, he has a NO by his name.
So Harry Reid just dumped out what the Democrats game plan has been all along. They sneak an amnesty plan and a plan to dilute military effectiveness into a military spending plan, knowing the Republicans will be resistant.
Don’t forget that Obama and Gates snuffed out the supply of the F-22 Raptor, and now want to deny them the best engine available for the F-35. They’ve cut military spending and deprived our guys of the best equipment, and they want to paint the picture that the other side is depriving our troops.
Don’t buy it. It’s shoe scrapings. It’s them that want to diminish the military. Remember and vote well November 2, 2010.
