Sen. Jim DeMint argued for a devolution of power out of Washington, saying Sunday that the fact is, education probably would work a lot better without the Department of Education.
The South Carolina Republican had been asked on CNNs State of the Union whether candidates whom he and the tea party movement have endorsed are too far out of the political mainstream. When host Candy Crowley gave Sharron Angles call to abolish the Education Department as an example, DeMint said, Shes very bold to say it. Angle is the GOP candidate challenging Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) for his Senate seat in Nevada.
I would support a devolution of power out of Washington for education, health care, transportation, and Ive introduced a lot of legislation for that, too, DeMint added, saying the power should go to the states. And you can do it in a common-sense, reasonable way that doesnt disrupt any of the activities that we support.
It's an idea whose time has come, thanks to 0bama and the Dems.
Ordered from Amazon, you save 34% off the cover price.
I would point to Alinsky's rule #12, "The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative."
Well the teaparty attacks are successful, and the price is a constructive alternative, which DeMint has tried to offer up. Turning these issues over to the states is a constructive alternative. Just continuing to be negative is not constructive and folks will tire of it very quickly.
Fred Thompson basically used it in his own Presidential platform, but failed to properly ignite people.
BS Demint is great. And Palin is his friend. Careful what you suggest.
While some of the expansion of federal holdings is legitimately opposed, it is quite appropriate for the federal government to own and hold land. I am a strong supporter of the National Park Service, and conserving our most beautiful places, for the common good, is strongly supported by most citizens. Likewise most of the holdings of the National Forrest Service.
In short, you have raised a losing argument and I would drop it.
DeMint supports the constituional form of government. The left always frames it as “power to the States” to conjure bad memories of segregation. But in most ways, the States did just fine with their constitutional power. Socialists and communists and elitists did not do so well. There were too many uppity (aka, independent free) people out there.
Fee Fii Foo Fumm. I smell Troll! Get a life and go back to DU
In fact, most of DHS. The Coast Guard is a good outfit and did not need to be combined into that useless organization. Nor did the Secret Service.
Our homeland security really rests on DoD, CIA, the FBI, and a free citizenry with 2nd ammendment rights. Another impotent feral bureaucracy is irrelevant - well, impotent is the wrong word since they have certainly mastered the art of breading and multiplying.
Bump!
Demint for President he just earned my vote! Stick that in your Huckster,Romney pipe. Demint and Palin.
Let’s start a new party.
The Enumerated Party.
Go through Washington not with a broom. A flamethrower!
Nah! The air here is fetid and stagnant. Want to know what to do, put in an ask price to your friends on K-street and see what the market will bear.
It’s going to get mighty evil ugly on here if a conservative runs against Palin. Oh, brother.
Why do you have to be vicious? (What is DU?)
.
Yep, it amazes me when the Trolls come out on FR and the dumb remarks they try to plant. They don’t last long. They tuck their tails and go back over to DU and brag to the cretin there about their imagined exploits.
Are you sure? (Read the comments on Murkowski’s news articles in the Alaska newspapers.)
Grow up? Very mature, you not knowing anything about me, “Repeal the 17th”...
.
There is much to like with this man. Ending the Dept of Education is a step towards actually educating our kids.
The Fox Panel and Harry Reid ripped Angle for saying the same thing.
Yes, get rid of the DOE!!!!!!
Spinning off non-profitable subsidiaries. :>)
