At a time when gays have been gaining victories across the country, the Republican Party in Montana still wants to make homosexuality illegal.
The party adopted an official platform in June that keeps a long-held position in support of making homosexual acts illegal, a policy adopted after the Montana Supreme Court struck down such laws in 1997.
The fact that it's still the official party policy more than 12 years later, despite a tidal shift in public attitudes since then and the party's own pledge of support for individual freedoms, has exasperated some GOP members.
"I looked at that and said, 'You've got to be kidding me,'" state Sen. John Brueggeman, R-Polson, said last week. "Should it get taken out? Absolutely. Does anybody think we should be arresting homosexual people? If you take that stand, you really probably shouldn't be in the Republican Party."
Gay rights have been rapidly advancing nationwide since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Texas' sodomy law in 2003's Lawrence v. Texas decision. Gay marriage is now allowed in five states and Washington, D.C., a federal court recently ruled the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy unconstitutional, and even a conservative tea party group in Montana ousted its president over an anti-gay exchange in Facebook.
But going against the grain is the Montana GOP statement, which falls under the "Crime" section of the GOP platform. It states: "We support the clear will of the people of Montana expressed by legislation to keep homosexual acts illegal."
Montana GOP executive director Bowen Greenwood said that has been the position of the party since the state Supreme Court struck down state laws criminalizing homosexuality in

Or a bull. I figured you lived in the country like I do where my neighbors are cows, horses and chickens.
Post 182. LOL
And not just homosexuals, but liberals, too. I realize that last one is a stretch... ;-)
Coyotes are a worry. They've been getting closer to the house. And there have been some hit by cars. That means there are more of them then before and they are getting less afraid of people.
Even liberals.
I was a wild eyed leftist years and years ago.
I know you were once a liberal, as was my wife. Change is good!
That is about ALL one can do -IMAGINE!
There is no homosexual species of human being. OTHERWISE there would be no need for don't ask don't tell -the "homosexuals" would be easily identified.
Think about it -what exactly defines a homosexual?
There is no more a homosexual species than there is a rich species, a poor species, a rapist species, a victim species, a RINO species, or a leftist politically correct morally relative humanistic moron species...
It is ALL about actions, practices, habits, and activities which in the case of homosexual add NOTING to society and in many cases are self destructive...
One can rightly oppose and seek legislation against individual and societal self-destructive activities -society does this all the time...
To equate homosexual sex to an innate state of being is to equate all of humanity to nothing more than at best animals void of free will and dignity...
The predisposition toward homosexual, cause unknown, is a self-destructive disorder that is reinforced with practice like a bad habit is...
I would say that the majority of Americans, as do I, agree with that sentiment. I do think that Americans have ever seen government spying on their bedrooms before. So, maybe your fear is unfounded -maybe, this is really a straw man argument?
Regardless, the problem I see is much the opposite:
How do we as a society get the practitioners of homosexual sex to keep their bedroom antics the hell out of the public domain?
For instance, why should school children be exposed to the disordered practices?
And that means NOT alienating the middle.
You know those pesky independents who voted for Obama.
I want conservative principles to win -I myself have had enough of unprincipled spineless elite politicians and the establishment and morally devoid morons that champion them. They stand for NOTHING on some issues -much like you...
Reading your posts here first defending the noble cause of homosexual sex and then suggesting you do this because you want to win elections I come to the conclusion that you are confused at best and at worst your moral principles are founded upon moral relative reasoning devoid of reality versus the laws of nature...
I’m not touching this.
Don't be sad -you will still be able to worship homosexual sex in the closet once you and your leftist progressive ilk get kicked to the curb with your delusions deposited upon the trash heap of history as yet another epic failure by collectivists void of morality...
I don’t like the notion of criminalizing sex acts between two consenting adults, even if it’s pervy. It’s unenforceable.
I wasn’t a liberal; I would have made DUers look like middle of the roaders!
I don’t like the notion of homosexual acts being taught in school as normal and natural, along with how-to manuals and links to “gay” porn sites.
Sodomy was illegal for most of our contry’s history. Keeps it in the dark which is the only place it should be. Keeps it out of the military, schools, public parks, streets and public life.
I should preface it by saying my comments don’t apply to public places. If folks are fornicating in public, that should always be a no-no. I just don’t like the idea of the gov’t telling adult people what they can and can’t be doing sexually in their bedrooms. If folks want to shove large bulbous objects in their outtake valves, that’s their business. I just don’t want to know about it.
The problem is that the horse is out of the barn, ran into the next county, and has been sold to new owners, twice.
In order to roll back the homosexual agenda, it is necessary to outlaw sodomy. That is the only way to keep it private.
The founding fathers considered that homosexual acts should indeed be illegal, as they were in every state. The Judges Gone Wild SCOTUS overturned Texas’ sodomy law a few years ago and it was a bad, bad decision. The federal gov has no right telling a state it can’t have laws against homosexual acts.
Since homosexuals and their eager enablers on the left wield such power, no cops dare arrest them for public sodomy. I’ve been on beaches and on hiking trails and seen them either trolling for fresh meat, walking naked and once, engaged in a disgusting sex act. No one dares to arrest them. My DH who used to live in SF ran into a “Gay Pride” parade by accident and says it was the most disgusting and sickening thing he’d ever witnessed. Live sex (if you can call it that) for blocks, replete with practically naked men holding little boys on their shoulders with chains around the childrens’ necks, or pulling them along like dogs.
Back into the closet.
Problem again is that because that horse is out of the barn, you can’t get enough public support to outlaw certain sexual practices (you could prosecute a married couple for sodomy if they’re doing something kinky in their bedroom just as much as you could a couple of male fudgepackers). I say firmly go after the public behavior. We do here in Nashville, where the creepy guys infest the public parks and the cops have done sweeps (often because children are right nearby).
I know what you mean about the Gay Pride parades. There was a local radio host who considered himself a moderate and “tolerant” guy. He was always criticizing folks that would call in complaining about gays... He was invited to one of these parades and after he saw it, he came back and apologized to his listeners. He said it was the most disgusting spectacle he’d ever witnessed in his life. It’s a bit absurd to call yourself “normal” while parading down the Main Street of a given city in a leather biker cap, a bulging G-string with a feather boa around your neck. We don’t put on “Straight Pride” parades where men and women engage in such conduct (’cept maybe in the basement of a college frat house).
If there is no public support in ant locality/state that is quite okay... As it was before a state issue -so it should be again... Right now we see big government imposing morality upon the people -the tyrant now voids community standards...
If people in any State USA want to experiment with homosexual sex promotion or demotion then let them -let the free moral market determine what is of value and what is not of value... THEN people can vote with their feet -if they do not want to live in a homosexual mecca that taxes them to fund sex change operations and homosexual partner benefits etcetera they can move to somewhere that doesn't...
Government was not formed out of thin air embodied by elites that handed down and codified the laws to the people. Government and law were created by the people -to enforce the rights and laws, some endowed by the Creator -the laws commonly observed, some codified some not, some regional some not --this long before the government to supposedly serve the will of the people was even imagined...
Specifically, in the case of homosexual sex premised "rights" -where exactly does the government get its authority to impose value upon "homosexual marriage"? The authority does not come from the people -the authority does not come from the Creator... Can you tell me where it comes from? Further, can you tell me what limit the government has upon what moral rules it can impose upon society IF they can declare homosexual marriage a good thing?
Freedom to practice religion entails among other things the right to premise public discourse upon religious beliefs. In the free market of ideas that comprise public discourse it should be the consensus of what is morally best that society promotes as valuable and as such -no one religion should be imposed upon society by government otherwise the free market of ideas is no longer... What we see now is a government with NO authority imposing upon society a state religion known as morally relative secular humanism...
>>> Montana GOP policy: Make homosexuality illegal
Bad luck for the lesbian sister of the tea party’s new Delaware queen. Maybe O’Donnell can visit her in the Helena jail though.
>>> We dont put on Straight Pride parades where men and women engage in such conduct
Never been to Mardi Gras or the Daytona and Lauderdale Spring Break huh?
