Snowe sounds off

4:50 p.m. - Few Republican lawmakers were as stung by Rep. Mike Castle's surprising loss to his conservative GOP opponent as Maine Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe.

In a hallway just off the Senate floor Thursday afternoon, she sounded off about her place as a moderate in the GOP, and voter anger she says she understands.

Visibly sad, Snowe called Castle "an outstanding public servant who was committed to the common good of his state and country."

The longer Snowe talked about the state of the GOP and the Tea Party movement, the more riled up she got.

"Understand, there are a lot of issues that, for example, in the Tea Party that they raise that are legitimate issues. Did we abandon our basic principles of fiscal responsibility? Absolutely. I was arguing those points during the Bush administration," Snowe said emphatically, "I made those very arguments."

“an outstanding public servant who was committed to the common good of his state and country.”

Spoken like a true Liberal.

Ms. Snowe...please understand.

There is a place for moderates in the Republican Party.

The problem is, conservatives want to be the ones who define what a moderate is. For example, a moderate conservative is one who is willing to defund the Dept. of Education over a two year period instead of immediately bulldozing the building.

Hope that helps.

I’d trade Snowe for Lieberman right now, no questions asked.

I think Lieberman has principles, even if I may not agree with all of them. I think you could possibly even sell the man on the need for fiscal austerity in order to save the Republic.

On the other hand, if Snowe has any principles, she hasn’t demonstrated them in the Senate that I can ever remember.

“she sounded off about her place as a moderate in the GOP”

Not in this lifetime. There is nothing moderate about her. Liberalism at its fullest.

Dear Senator,
You're next.

We have quite a few friends in Maine and they can't wait for the day they can send that exact message. Snowe in ‘12 and Collins in ‘14 — they both have to go!!!

IMO, Snowe needs to spend some time reviewing EACH & EVERY vote she has ever made in her political life.

This review needs to be made with an open mind.

She has voted with the Liberals far too many times, including on Supreme Court nominees.

I wouldn't.

I like Lieberman, but he is a consistent liberal vote. He has a lifetime ACU rating of 16.5%. The Sisters Maine are both right at 50%.

Snowe is much more "conservative" than Lieberman...but in Texas they would be considered liberal marxists (tenured professors).

Best...

She could should will lose in a primary too be convicted of treason and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Fun part about this one is it applies to 2/3 of the Judiciary, most Bar members, and about 70% of Congress.

Castle "an outstanding public servant who was committed to the common good of his state and country."

More like committed to spending other people's money and canceling your 2nd Amendment rights.

For all the reasons mentioned here, the good people of Maine should do the country a favor and fire this dumb twat.

Frankly, my dear...

This ongoing “Snowe job” that the dubious patriots of Maine have repeatedly foisted upon the rest of the nation is only slightly less reprehensible than what Monica gave Bill.

Had I may own way in such matters, all of the designators used to signify one’s self-proclaimed alignment with the Republican Party would be Registered Trademarks not legally used without expressed, written permission, and issue of such permission wuld be predicated upon presentation of a sworn affidavit affirming the individual’s agreement to, and future support of Conservative principles, and all manner of rights appertainig thereto as embodied in our nation’s founding documents.

You make the Republican Party a franchise, and hard code its DNA to rock-ribbed conservatism by embedding those foundational tenets in the articles of incorporation, and then sue the hell out of liberal pretenders attempting to fool voters by riding the GOP coattails.

One way or another, this kind of RINO crap has to be stopped stone dead in its tracks.
