In Maryland, we have a 47 member Senate elected from single member districts. Of these, 20 incumbents ran unopposed for re-nomination, and 3 seats were open. Of the 24 incumbent senators who were opposed for renomination, 8 are losing at the present time (7 'Rats and Donald Munson, R from the Hagerstown area), and another 'Rat (Jennie Forehand, kook from Rockville, is barely ahead of an ultra-kook former Delegate named Cheryl Kagan).

Thou wilt not cower in the dust,
Maryland!
Thy beaming sword shall never rust,
Maryland!
Remember Carroll’s sacred trust,
Remember Howard’s warlike thrust,-
And all thy slumberers with the just,
Maryland! My Maryland!
” Donald Munson, R from the Hagerstown area”
SWEET!
Go, Shank, go!
A nice a*** kicking!
Sounds like you have the same gerrymandering problem that we have in Cali. In 2006, not a single district changed hands.
Great state song, is it not?
BTW, I have tried to get an answer to this question, but I have been unsuccessful. A few months ago, my husband and I watched an old movie on TCM, “Tomorrow is Forever”, starring Orson Welles. In one scene, the main female character’s son and Welles’ character are in a train station. There is a group of men in the station singing “Maryland, My Maryland”. It is definitely that song and not “Oh, Christmas Tree”. My question is why are they singing our state’s anthem? Quite baffling.
Yes, it is a great state song...rich in history...sadly, every so often they try and do away with it to appease black Dems...but so far it’s holding on.
I wasn’t aware that the song was being sung in the old Orson Wells movie you mention...perhaps someone in the movie had a connection to the film.
Munson is now ahead.
Donald F. Munson Republican 262 50.68%
Christopher B. Shank Republican 255 49.32%
[the alleged “Dem party switchers” at work?]
What about the US Senate Republican race?
Why is no one mentioning this?
Barbara Mikulski is not unbeatable.
She’s been in Washington for 34 years.
Been in the US Senate for 24 years.
Been voting for more government every single one of those years.
Why do we not care at all who is the Republican running against her?
She could be beaten.
Munson was crushed: Shank 6,478 to Munson 4,798 with all 39 precincts in.
Michael Lenett (D-19, Montgomery); George Della (D-46, Baltimore City); and Michael Harrington (D-47, Prince George’s) have all lost. Rona Kramer (D-14, Montgomery, is behind by 112 votes with the absentees to be counted on Thursday). Nathaniel Exum (D-24, Prince George’s) is 400 votes behind with 19 of 28 precincts in. Norman Stone, the longest serving state senator (44 years), has just taken the lead by about 20 votes in district 6 (eastern Balto County) but about half the precincts have not reported.
Two others who were in trouble all night, Jennie Forehand (D-17, Montgomery) and Nancy King (D-39, Montgomery), now lead by about 300 votes each with the absentees to come.
Eric Wargotz, the medical doctor who has been a member of the Queen Anne’s County Commission, has been projected by AP to be the winner. With 1453 of 1829 precincts statewide in, Wargotz leads second-placed Jim Rutledge 80,124 (39%) to 64,331 (31%).
It also looks like 6 incumbent Delegates are going to lose renomination tonight; 5 of these are incumbents, including Nancy Stocksdale of Carroll County, whom I have met and thought she was a great gal. There was relatively little pre-election turnover in the 141 member House, where 124 members sought re-election.
Is there a tea party candidate in that race? Is Wargotz the tea party candidate? I hope he’s good, Mikulski is old and been Senator for 24 years and 34 years in DC. If this is a anti Dem year or a anti incumbent year, or both, she’s definitely both.
The dude in Hawaii is extremely old, 86, and has been representing Hawaii in DC for 51 years. That’s Right. Fifty-one. Been Senator since the 1960s. Was Hawaii’s first US Rep. The election is Saturday in Hawaii. No visibility of this race. But this super old guy can be beaten.
Here are some names
eddie pirkowski wants to increase spending - not tea party
John Roco - might be crazy. but he’s young. and he’s decent looking and he might be Filipino? Right now, I’d pick him as the tea party candidate.
Cam Cavasso - He’s probably the front runner. The establishment / GOP candidate. Probably will win on Saturday unless someone gives a lot of money to Roco real quick.
People in HI would know the answer I suppose, but there isn’t much on the internet on this race. I don’t like the looks of Cavasso at all. He’s a banker / insurance guy. Ran before and got 20% Sorta creepy looking. From what I’ve seen, I like Roco. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was completely unknown in HI though. But, just on physical appearance, I’d say go with Roco. I don’t care if he’s crazy. Get conservatives and get 18-49. Run spots on Adult Swim making fun of how old that old dude is. He’s been Senator longer than Roco has been alive. If you think the country is on the wrong track, think who has been laying that track for 50 years.
If you win, you definitely want another “young gun”, right, rarely does the Republican message include “slighly gay looking middle aged and old white men” and here’s Larry Craig. He’s representing Idaho. How’d that happen?
The song is done in “Gone With The Wind” at the train station. See at this link: http://www.imdb.com/search/text?realm=title&field=soundtracks&q=O+Tannennbam
thanks Thile44!
