Parents, Mark Your Calendars: September 14th Is Obama Day At School!
CATO @ Liberty ^ | 9/14/10 | Neal McCluskey

Yesterday, White House sources confirmed that President Obama will deliver another back-to-school address aimed at all of the nation’s children. That’s right, the president will make September 14 the second-annual Obama Day at your local school!

You might recall last year’s Obama Day, for which the U.S. Department of Education put out teaching guides that gave parents across the country reasonable cause to fear a day of liberal politics and celebrating President Obama. You might also remember the divisive national uproar that precipitated, which ultimately culminated in a relatively staid — but nonetheless campaign-esque — speech, not to mention a fair amount of after-the-fact sneering at people who either didn’t want public-school kids exposed to left-wing politicking or just wanted their kids, you know, left alone by the president.

Is he going to tell them how much in taxes he’s already saddled them with due to his increases in the national debt?

ONe wonders if there were Benito Mussolini days in Italian schools, in the 1930’s.

(Does anyone know what “Il Duce” means in English?

Just asking.

God Bless my school board. They sent letters home this past week stating they would NOT be showing this (and they bolded "not" in their letter).

If Obama wants to tell kids how to be successful, and to set goals, etc. he should stop the vague statements about "you can be anything you want," "work hard," etc. and tell them these rules, for example:

1)Boys: Pull up your pants and wear a belt. Stop with the too big, baggy, falling down pants. We are tired of seeing your underwear and half of your behinds. Girls: Cover your midriff section and naval. Wear skirts and pants that fit (not so short and tight)and not clothes that look like you are squeezing into sizes for five year olds.
2) Stop with the pierced noses, tongues, lips, and other body parts.
3)Stop with the tattoos.
4) Stand up straight and learn how to walk. Pick up your feet and stop sliding them as you sachet along as though you are too tired to move.
5) Knock that chip off of your shoulder. Your "always ready for a fight" attitude is not a key for success. It is a key for trouble.
6)Learn how to talk without using vulgar,four-letter words. (Even if Rahm Emanuel talks that way, he is not a person to imitate.)

We are lucky we live in a small slice of a school district north of metro Atlanta that is very sub-urban almost rural, my son brought home a slip in his backpack asking for parental permission to allow him to participate in Hussein’s propaganda speech today, I thought it was great you had to opt-in in order to view his socialist mindwashing instead of being forced to like probably 99% of schools. Small glimmer of hope here!!!!

Ah crap! I forgot it was today!
Oh well, I’ve raised my younguns right, so there won’t be any major debriefing of them from me this afternoon.
If anything I expect a call from the school because mine will be loudly refuting anything the Won sez if they have to watch it.
: )
I love my kids!

Our school also sent home notices, and an opt-out form. They did this last year, too, when we and other parents raised a stink about the speech.

We’ll let the kids watch it, though, then discuss at home. His message will be benign, but we’ll talk about how he says one thing and does another.

We are unfortunate enough to have kids in public schools for now. My kid’s principal sent a note home just to his grade that they wouldn’t show because the content didn’t match curriculum. Funny, but the content unlike last year has not been revealed.
