State Republicans moved the three-way U.S. Senate race to a new level Saturday, with party leaders pointing to an audit of their books they say implies Gov. Charlie Crist now an independent candidate for U.S. Senate ran up potentially "hundreds of thousands" of dollars in inappropriate charges.
Party Chairman and state Sen. John Thrasher said the expenses came to light during the just-completed forensic audit by Alston & Bird LLP which was the examiner in energy giant Enron's 2002 bankruptcy. He said the party may sue their former standard bearer to get the money back.
The announcement is rife with political implications, given that Crist and Republican Senate candidate Marco Rubio are running neck and neck in many polls, with Democrat Kendrick Meek a distant third.
The review, which the party did not make public but may release later, was initiated earlier this year after former state GOP Chairman Jim Greer was forced from office, in part by accusations of extravagant spending. Thrasher, who took Greer's place, discussed the report's findings after a three-hour, closed-door meeting with the party's executive board at Disney's Boardwalk Resort.
He said auditors found that Crist, Greer and Delmar Johnson, the party's former executive director, may have inappropriately spent money on travel, consultants, meetings and other items not related to party business.
Thrasher provided no firm numbers but said Greer could owe "hundreds of thousands" of dollars and that Crist was in "that ballpark." Thrasher said party officials would spend the next 10 days considering a lawsuit against Crist, Greer and Johnson.
Crist abandoned the Republican Party in April and, since then, has been hammered by the party as a turncoat, liar and political chameleon.

PM in a day or so sis.. missing you
Rest assured I am STRONGLY supporting Steve Southerland in FLD2 to defeat Allen Boyd.
Consider it a down payment. Next installment after Nov. 2. Agree, $10K is chump change for Greer's extravagant spending habits.
“Crist abandoned the Republican Party in April” do they mean April of 2007?
It’s painful!
Your *BIL* is still watching...lol.
P.S.
I miss you too.
Hope to get to ATRW tomorrow.
Supposedly, Crist’s wife, a wealthy socialite from the North East, is intent on going to Washington as the wife of a Senator. This is thought to be the basis of Crist’s recent marriage.
This should take care of ole charlie.
LOL... well, tell BIL,I am too
but will be off computer for many hours as the download begins..

Closet homo boy is going down.

Thank you for this post!
The funny thing is that my mother saw a crawl across CNN’s screen...don’t ask why she was watching...with this info on Saturday night, but nothing further.
I’ve been waiting to see it somewhere on the ‘net, but I haven’t until now.
Lordy...you would thing that the LSM doesn’t want to report it...or something.
Good thing he didn’t, plus this Greer thing wold have sunk him anyway. But my view is another young gun or new face will arise to take on Nelson in 2012. I predict a second wave of Tea Party type folks will be ready to roll shortly after the induction of the 112th congress and that will spell the ending of the Country Club Republican Establishment. Imagine McLame having to be in a real tiny minority because his butt wipe Goober buddy will not make it past 2012.

“Close friend”?
Nope, they be butt buddies.
Actually there is more to it than what you’ve said.
While running as a pubie, crist received numerous contributions which he refused to return when he decided to go as an Independant.
Cept when it came to Greer. Crist returned that particular contribution, said Greer needed it to help defend himself.
Course crist refused to return any otheer contributions he received while running as a pubbie.
Crist is RINO trassh.
I hope they get him.
