A Tea Party Split in New Hampshire?
The Atlanic ^ | Sep 13 2010, 3:56 PM ET | Nicole Allan

Tuesday's GOP Senate primary in New Hampshire will pit two Tea Party icons against each other: Sarah Palin and Jim DeMint. The former Alaska governor is backing former state Attorney General Kelly Ayotte, who has solid Tea Party support, while the South Carolina senator has just endorsed Ovide Lamontagne, a lawyer with strong connections to state conservatives.

Palin and DeMint have played key roles in multiple primaries so far, their endorsements often accompanying insurgent victories over Republican incumbents or establishment picks. Palin's backing helped Joe Miller eke out a win over Lisa Murkowski in Alaska, DeMint's endorsement nudged Ken Buck toward victory in Colorado, and both figures lent support to Nevada's Sharron Angle and Kentucky's Rand Paul.

But while DeMint has hewed close to the Tea Party line, Palin's picks have been less consistent. Her Facebook fans rioted after she endorsed Carly Fiorina for Senate over Tea Party favorite Chuck DeVore in California, and again when she backed former Iowa governor Terry Branstad for re-election. She also supported John McCain over Tea Party candidate J.D. Hayworth in Arizona -- though that was, of course, to be expected.

That was a mega mistake.

Jim DeMint is a sitting Senator and has been for a while, he is GOP, not part of a Tea Party.

Working hard to discredit Palin. The Atlantic has become one of the worst leftist rags in the country.

Palin and DeMint are both good people. And maybe they differ because we are fortunate to have two good candidates in New Hampshire?

It is a good thing to have several good candidates competing for a position than to have no good candidates at all.

-—”Palin and DeMint are both good people”-—

Good point. I notice no mention of DeMint endorsing RINO Dino Rossi over Clint Didier in WA. I doubt this was an accidental omission.

Either Kelly Ayotte or Ovide would be fine.

Ayotte has polled very well re the general election while Ovide got crushed in his last statewide run.

This year Ayotte has had to fight off millions of dollars of attacks from liberal Republicans, Democrats, and even the Union-Leader newspaper, while Ovide has skated by with a free ride.

I think Kelly is more of a fighter, while Ovide has never been tested.

But some conservatives think the opposite, which is fine, too.

My thoughts exactly. I’ll be happy as well with whoever wins in Delaware. If O’Donnell, we’ve let the establishment know they have to be more conservative or they die politically. If Castle wins we have a better chance of keeping a Dem out of Congress in the fall and the same message to the establishment (almost) has been sent.

STILL they don't get it...

The freakin' media still thinks the TEA party is a political party, with a leadership.

It's the inbred "groupthink" that liberals take daily sitzbaths in, it has to be...no other explanation.

The TPM is - in effect - leaderLESS. The only guiding light needed is the Constitution of the United States.

The TPM made up of INDIVIDUALS...not "groupified lemmings" like the dems.

Sarah Palin AND DeMitt are INDIVIDUALS, making up their own minds about who they will endorse and/or support. They don't send out "consensus forms" to the TPM followers asking WHO to support, they do it based on their own evaluations and decisions.

The TPM cannot be "SPLIT"; to be "split" implies that there is some sort of party-line adhesion, and there isn't. There is only the ideology of conservatism and the Constitution.

The TPM is not a serpent that can be killed by a beheading, it's the Gadston snake, you cut it into 8 pieces and you've got 8 serpents to fight instead of one.

The left has thrown everything they have at the TPM, and it only gets stronger and stronger with each blow; the TPM is the American people standing up for America. The left can't fight that, they don't know how as their Alinsky playbook is only good for one scenario.

Their slings and arrows will not harm a spirit - the Spirit of America.

It is a pure joy to watch them try over and over to destory the TPM, and fail every time.

Everytime they think the have the TPM against the ropes, another regiment comes marching over the hill.

Americans have a good thing going for them...it's called AMERICA...and they're not going to take that lightly, nor let it slip through their fingers to a bunch of muslims who are still struggling to figure out toilet paper.

The the current jackass in the oval office is slick, but he is not the "won" he thinks he is, and if we let such as him take our country away, then we deserve to lose it.

- - - - - - - - -

Precisely.

In fact, Senator DeMint was Mark Levin’s guest on his radio show this evening and Senator DeMint has nothing but PRAISE for Sarah Palin.

We have to be mindful of the media looking to divide and conquer. DeMint and Palin are on the same side, both working to elect conservatives, with DeMint’s focus on the US Senate. DeMint praised Sarah for her extraordinary efforts that jettisoned Nikki Haley in his state, South Carolina.

Whatever to that designation. Rossi was perfectly acceptable to this board before this year. I wonder what changed...oh, right, Palin endorsed someone else.

I’m backing Ovide here. I don’t mind Palin’s pick but since Ovide has surged in support I’m going to switch to the more conservative of the two.

One question. I don’t recall either DeMint or Palin backing Angle before her win as credited in this article. DeMint chose Tarkanian I know that. I remember some wishful thinking from Norton that palin was going to back her. Did Palin ever make an endorsement before that primary?

The Atlantic would love to foment discord but the fact is, the decentralized, grass roots nature of the tea party movement will defeat their attempts at sabotage.

Partiers can follow one or the other and after the primary coalesce behind the winner. Those with ego issues tied up in the election need not apply to begin with.

The whorehouse Left has never faced this kind of challenge to their criminal hegemony, and they are perplexed that the old reliable BS isn't working.

That would make a great window sticker but it is too heavy on race. I'm not going to argue the point, it just is. The message cannot be beat however.
