Karen B., a Los Angeles writer in her 40s, found a sperm donor on Craigslist after she and her lesbian partner decided to have a baby.
"I tried every male friend, gay, straight, married and single, but it was really difficult to find somebody," said Karen. "I was running out of options and my biological clock was ticking."
After connecting on the Internet, she and the donor, Daniel C., signed a layman's agreement that the child would live with Karen and she would make all parenting decisions. He would have some visitation rights.
"I always wanted the baby to know the father," said Karen, who had originally intended to use a family friend's sperm until she discovered he was HIV positive.
But as the pregnancy progressed, Daniel interjected himself into the couple's life, even telling the doctor he was Karen's husband, even though he was gay.

You were talking about the father, but I was talking abput the child, and implying what I will now state, that the natural rights and natural duties are interrelated.
I would argue that a child has the natural right to care and provision and even to derive a sense of identity from his natural father and mother; no one has the authority to simply "will away" these natural relationships; and the father must therefore have, to some extent, the opportunity to carry out his duties. That is, the right to do as he ought.
How this works out is a big problem, and probably gets more problematic as we go along. But the mother herself talked about an acquaintance who was conceived by donor (one should say "vendor") insemination and deprived of all means on cotnacting her father: "Every single day of her life, she was bothered by the identity of her father."
Something similar can be said about the unbalanced individual who is now President of the United States.
The father-child link is everywhere derided, set aside, made redundant; and yet it reasserts itself, penetrating and pervasive.

And my point is that God provided a way for a man to carry out his duties, and a woman hers.
Some fathers, IMO, it would be better for the child to forego his financial support in order to keep him out of its life.
But that’s just me.
