...a state registered Democrats outnumber Republicans 329,000 to 179,000.
Castle voting history suggests he will vote with conservatives 52 percent of the time. If Coons is elected and votes in a pattern similar to Delawares other senator, he will vote the conservative 12 percent; if he emulates current Democratic senator Ted Kaufman, he will vote the conservative position 4 percent.
Over his 17 complete years in the U.S. House of Representatives, Castle has voted the conservative position, as defined by the American Conservative Union, about 52 percent of the time. In 2009, ACU scored Castle at 56.
Castle opposed the Lilly Ledbetter pay act, which the ACU described as a new Pandoras Box for trial lawyers. He voted for a bill that would prevent the Treasury from spending the $350 billion that remained in the TARP program. He opposed the Obama stimulus. He voted against efforts to water down legislation barring federal funds to ACORN or other organizations that employ people who have been convicted of election-law violations. He voted to eliminate the earmark for the airport near Johnstown, Pa., named after Rep. John Murtha. He voted to cut discretionary government spending in the appropriations for the Departments of Housing and Transportation by 5 percent.
He supported an amendment to the health-care bill that would ban using taxpayer funds to provide abortion services, an interesting vote for a self-described pro-choice Republican. He voted against the health-care bill.
Castle thinks trying to repeal Obamacare while Obama is president is a waste of time, but hes open to the idea if the GOP can regain control of the White House:
This is not some new position shift, spurred by the impending primary; the video above is from April.
Castles sense that any repeal effort would be unable to overcome a presidential veto..

I would posit that being able to stop Obama’s liberal agenda and eventually to be able to pass a conservative agenda is the “forest,” and the petty fight between a RINO and a gadfly in Delaware is a mere “tree.” Castle gets us Chairman Sessions and all that entails; O’Donnell (i.e., Coons) gets us Chairman Leahy.
In regards to O'Donnell, you are right about all her problems. Filing a lawsuit? How dare she! Having financial problems? How stupid of her!
You're right. Elect Jim Jeffords....er, I mean, Arlen Specter...sorry...I mean Mike Castle.
Dear Jim, we don't want a half time RINO. That type of political thought is so yesterday.
>>> FYI, Hotair has now weighed in...
So they have:
” If control of the Senate comes down to this race, and it very well might, would it be better to have a Republican squish holding the seat and give the GOP control of the Senate floor and all the committees,
or to hand it to either Harry Reid or Chuck Schumer for the next two-year period in which well see at least one Supreme Court retirement and Obama still attempting to push through his radical agenda? “
In this interview:
Christine O'Donnell / Dan Gaffney Radio Show
Christine O'Donnell talked live (I believe) with a radio station.
It raised a lot of eyebrows because the host called her out on a comment she had made to a group of people in which she claimed that she had won 2 of the 3 Delaware counties against Joe Biden in 2008. In fact, she did not win those counties.
This isn't innuendo since the host had an audio of the statement, and you are able to listen to both parties in the audio link.
If you have time, listen to the interview or skim through the comments at the site to get a better idea of what the discussion is about.
My opinion is that she doesn't have that bedrock image that candidates such as Sarah Palin, Jan Brewer, Scott Brown or Joe Miller have.
That doesn't necessarily mean voting for Castle is better.
Is there ANY issue or set of issues that you would not be willing to concede just to get another R?
hmmm, for a goldwater anything, you sure drink the leftist KoolAid by the gallon... maybe the 0 Right to Life score or the F from the NRA for Castle don’t make a diff to you, so how about a 26% rating for votes with the Dem Congress even way lower than Spector that same year. He worked WITH the state Dems to switch offices giving the Govenorship to them with NO OPPOSITION, and you want to vote for him for Senate???
Vote him OUT now, and quit smearing a candidate that did as well as McCain in a presidential year. it’s now or never and Castle is the disaster, not Christine...
ymmv
I'm totally fed up with voting "yea" on a "moderate" (aka person who is defined as "moderate" by other "moderates" when each know that the person will be voting for higher taxes every time as well as other liberal sacred cows.
Yes, Castle did vote "right" in some cases but usually they were "safe votes" that he'd never support if they had the chance to see the light of day and making it into law.
It is a team sport, Robbin.
How do you feel about having candidates who are electable in the general election?
Exactly. In politics it's all about numbers. If defeating Castle means the Republicans lose a seat, a near certainty with O'Donnell in the general election, and a chance of becoming the majority in the Senate, it would be a disaster.
To be clear, I am no fan of Castle. I am also no fan of losing. If the net result of the 2010 election is Chuck Schumer or Harry Reid as Majority Leader of the Senate, then for a certainty this country will suffer greatly. The magic number is 51. How do we get to 51 to prevent this tragedy?
I find this near maniacal hunt for Moby "RINO" Dick a little short-sighted if in the end we end up with a Democrat Senate majority.
I have no pretentions as to Castle being anything other than a liberal. Read my tag line; I wouldn’t trust Castle as far as I can throw him. As I have said repeatedly, I would have supported any qualified, responsible, honest conservative who ran against Castle. Unfortunately, none did. And if I have to choose between Castle in the Senate and Jeff Sessions as Chairman of Judiciary or Coons in the Senate and Pat Leahy as Chairman of Judiciary, I’ll choose Castle and Sessions.
Conservatives can indeed win in Delaware, but they can’t be unqualified, irresponsible and dishonest. I hope that it doesn’t take two more years of Pat Leahy chairing the Judiciary Committee in order to learn that lesson.
No, it's not.
It's better to have control over the committees and rules of the House and Senate.
Then you can work on finding palatable candidates.
“New rule for conservatives. NEVER vote for a liberal, regardless of party.”
Although we voted for him twice before, my wife and I have come to a similar conclusion, and we won't be voting for Bob Ehrlich in Maryland this time.

You wisely explain why the GOP is so ineffective on so many matters.
O’Donnell - Opposes babykilling.
Castle - Supports babykilling.
It’s just that simple. Why does supporting babykilling make one ‘electible’, and ‘responsible’? I call that offensive, irresponsible, and downright dishonest that he’s being sold to us as the best choice.
Great, and when he backstabs us like Jumpin’ Jim did? Having him be the deciding vote is like having no vote at all.
