GOP regulars unload on O'Donnell

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.— Soon after Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski lost her August primary and became the latest casualty of the tea party’s assault on the GOP establishment, she placed a call to Rep. Mike Castle, another Republican Party favorite facing an insurgent challenger.

Her message? “They'll come at you hard, so just be prepared," Castle told POLITICO.

Murkowski’s warning proved prescient and her experience instructive. While her defeat at the hands of tea party-backed challenger Joe Miller reverberated across the country, nowhere did it have more impact than in tiny Delaware, where Castle once looked to be a runaway winner but is now hearing the footsteps of his own tea party challenger, Christine O’Donnell.

O’Donnell’s campaign surged in the aftermath of the Alaska contest, powered by additional publicity and endorsements from prominent Republicans ranging from Sarah Palin to South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint. For many conservatives, the opportunity to take down Castle—one of the GOP’s leading moderates—was irresistible.

Castle will pull a Charlie Crist if he loses. That's what RINOs do.

“Castle will pull a Charlie Crist if he loses. That’s what RINOs do.”

You gotta love Sarah croaking these toads though, doncha? Huh? C’mon ... you love it! You want her to crush them!

Will you work hard for her in her campaign? It’s gonna be her ... isn’t it?

Michael Castle

"..In 1992, when Castle retired as Governor due to constitutional term limits. The result was what became known as "the Swap." Castle ran for the seat of U.S. Representative Thomas R. Carper and Carper ran for Governor. Delaware’s political leadership had quietly worked out the arrangement and retained the services of two very popular office holders...."

The clique runs Delaware politics. It is old and incestuous and very creepy.

Castle is a HUGE RINO. He is Specter II.

I'll work hard in her campaign. Yes, it's going to be her. Nobody else can do what she can, and in many instances, already has done.

Palin ~ Bachman 2012. It's time for Pa-Bach.

Man talk about a hit piece. Hatred oozes from every word in the article.

And oh yeah, a lot of the state and national GOP machinery is irreparably broken.

He could only run as a write-in if he loses. DE has a sore loser law.

It’s still going that way. Ask yourself, why didn’t the DE GOP put up a candidate (in this state full of lawyers) against Beau Biden for State AG?

As a wise man once said...”same as it ever was”.

Castle is ruling class. He supports cap and trade.

O’Donnell is pro-liberty, and she opposes cap and trade.

In response, Ross pounced, filing a complaint with the Federal Election Commission alleging an “illegal statewide coordinated communications effort” between the Express and O’Donnell.

Isn’t the above what the state GOP is doing for Castle?

I truly believe we’d be better off with dems in office than rinos. The GOP needs to return to true conservatism or it needs to go away.

“Ask yourself, why didn’t the DE GOP put up a candidate (in this state full of lawyers) against Beau Biden for State AG?”

Better question: Why did nobody step forward?

It’s not like the DE GOP comes up with candidates - it’s about WHO STEPS FORWARD to run.

Any lawyer who runs against Biden and loses won’t get business in the state. It HURTS their own business.
So the ‘smart’ lawyers dont run.

As a wise man once said...”same as it ever was”.

The GOP, less vile than the Democrats, on most things most of the time.

Sort of like the old Mensheviks.

I have a great idea.

Why don’t we completely ignore anything and everything from Mike Castle’s past, while stretching ourselves into unrecognizable objects as we try to smear the pro-liberty candidate, Christine O’Donnell?

That way, we might get cap and trade!

Great post.

I hope she wins.

The race really epitomizes what is wrong with the Republican establishment.

Demonizing her for her financial troubles ought to be a rhetorical disaster in the present economic environment.
