McCain calls for securing border
The Rio Rancho Observer, Rio Rancho, NM ^ | 2010-09-12 | Christopher Ortiz

SANTA ANA — Securing the border and comprehensive immigration reform are two different things, said Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) after speaking with sheriffs from border states at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort Wednesday.

(snip)

McCain spoke at the Southwestern Border Sheriffs’ Coalition.

We are a nation of immigrants unless you’re Native American,” McCain said to a roomful of law enforcement officials. “We are a proud nation of immigrants... but immigration has to take place legally.”

(snip)

I think we are safer (since 9/11),” he said.

(snip)

If the federal government had secured the border, which is their responsibility, Arizona wouldn’t have acted,” McCain said to reporters after his speech.

(snip)

“We need to spend some money, maybe take it out the stimulus package because we got to complete the fence,” he said. “We need to have increase border patrol. In the short term, we need the (National Guard) at the border.”

(snip)

“It’s not appropriate in my view for the president of the United States to tie securing the border to comprehensive reform,” he said. “We need to have the border secure first then work on comprehensive reform. It’s a legitimate concern in my view that the president is playing politics with our border security.

“We got to get the border secure. We failed in the Senate. The American people want the border secure, we have to have the border secure first. I believe we can get our border secured. When I ran for president in 2008 I said we had to get the border secured first. I said that in 2009 and I continue to say that in 2010.”

McCain must either be completely senile, a hypocrite, or totally stupid to think he can fool us again. He needs to retire.

““It’s not appropriate in my view for the president of the United States to tie securing the border to comprehensive reform,” he said.”

THAT is exactly what McCain has always done....well, before his recent conversion, now it’s ‘secure the border first’...more McCain speak.

And his girl in California.....

snip]Meg Whitman indulged in harsh rhetoric against illegal immigrants while she was running in the Republican primaries for governor this year, but did a volte-face as soon as she advanced to the general election and faced the entire electorate. She now woos Latinos with Spanish-language ads, opposes Arizona’s immigration law

******and worked behind the scenes to prevent the state’s Republican Party from endorsing SB1070.”********

The role of Latinos in American society is growing inexorably, with big political implications for the future

mccain being mccain again....lying for the political purpose of being elected. what a waste. this man was a hero but during the election he was almost a carbon copy of zero. he hasn't changed. actions always speak louder than the mere words.

Yes.

Agree.

1. Put McKennedy in Mexico.
2. Secure the border.
3. Shoot to kill if he is spotted even near it.

We need to secure the border, allow (no, demand) AZ style interior enforcement, then never ever have “comprehensive immigration reform” which is just code for amnesty....... bunch of other stuff too, but I’ll start with this.

He is a fool. And Arizona voters have themselves to blame, but perhaps they were too wrapped up in the lawsuits by the Justice Department to get involved in such an unimportant thing as an election. Geez.

...In other news, Barack Obama denounced socialism as a failed economic system, and expressed support for creating a national holiday honoring Ronald Reagan.
