I just want an old car that will survive an EMP. Today’s cars would be dead on the spot if something like that went off.

Imagine having been out of work for a year. Your credit is dinged, and you are down to three grand in your savings account.

You finally get a job and you need a car to get to it.

But lo and behold, Cash for Clunkers has driven the price and availability of a decent used car out of your reach.

Thank you, Democrats.

You aren’t the only one. We have been looking for a cheap third car and absolutely won’t buy one with the prices out there now.

Cash For Clunkers resulted in good used cars destroyed to prop up Unions and now we pay for it.

There is a truck in town that I am considering making an offer on next month if it is still available. “Slightly used” 1947 Ford pickup, 3 speed manual, lifted. Needs some body work and a paint job but it could be worth it.

Watch Obama slap a used car tax, a HUGE one, on used cars.

You are supposed to be supporting labor unions, damn it!

The poor have no choice but to pay these high prices for something driveable when their old clunker gives out.

So the POOR are now paying for Obama’s Cash For Clunkers bailout for the union.

How FUBAR.

Strange as it may seem, the late 80’s & early 90’s produced some very high quality cars that could go 500,000 + miles if cared for properly.

For instance, Toyota had the quality meter dialed up to 10 because their image was suffering from the previous decade when rust was a problem they had.

I bet you could find a gem in that range for less than a grand, a new record price point for you.

With the economy in the tank, less people are buying new cars, meaning they are holding on to there good used cars.

Also, the cash for clunkers program took a lot of GOOD USED cars and crushed them. Perfectly usable cars for someone, who could afford them, were destroyed.

I would also think that the law of supply and demand would have some effect here, The demand for good used cars is high, but the supply was purposefully lowered.

Great economic plan. Eliminate affordable cars, and force people to buy less affordable ones, and go further in debt doing it.

That program was the most Brain dead bit of destruction I have seen, a lot of perfectly usable cars and or parts just trashed for NO good reason.

Last week I bought the 3rd car from a man I know who buys totalled out cars from the insurance company and fixes them. If you know someone like that you can get a deal. You need to be dealing with someone who has done this for a long time and knows what he’s doing, or you could really get stuck though. I bought an ‘05 buick century, loaded with 57000 miles for about half of Kelley blue book. All he had to do to it was replace the hood and 1 fender.

I have done this on a few occasions and eventually wind up selling the car since having that much money on wheels that can crash makes me nervous.

The solution: finance the purchase with a low, fixed-rate auto loan from a CREDIT UNION, with a one-time Guaranteed Asset Protection, or GAP, fee rolled into the loan. In case of accident, the lender then writes off the balance of the loan left unpaid by insurance, which often pays at "actual cash value (i.e., wholesale or less than wholesale).

We bought my daughter a used Ford Escape back in June. It was from an owner who had it parked at the end of their property. In ONE DAY he had 18 people stop to look, great price, and we bought it that next morning because we had the cash, other people were suppose to meet him at bank and lo & behold they had no money in their account, what the heck were they smoking thinking they could get away with a scam AT THE BANK. LOL

Great price but high mileage but @ 16 she only drives 2 miles per day to high school and twice a week to dance in town.

I searched for SEVERAL months and I just knew my husband wouldn’t go for the high prices on any of them until this deal fell into our hands.

Keep Looking!

Cash-For-Clunkers helped Korea and Japan, and harmed the working poor, who can’t afford $30,000 cars, the most.

It Means that hundreds of thousands of “Affordable” used cars no longer exist, and has led to severe price inflation on those that still do.

Next to “Stimulus “ and CFL’s, this is the single most braindead piece of legislation I have ever seen.

This is ironic...

I went to a used car lot yesterday and told them i was looking for a 00-02 Ford F150/Dodge Ram 4x4 for plowing drive and dump runs. I have a $5,000 budget.

The guy said, “...good f**king luck. You can Thank Obama and Cash for Clunkers.” I had completely forgotten about this.

He said they destroyed 750,000 perfectly good vehicles, with values of 2,500-5000. His “bread and butter,” he said. Now he only sells cars in 8-12 grand range and he can’t move them.

It’s true at the very bottom levels too. On craigslist in Silicon Valley, two or three years ago it was difficult but not impossible to find a (usually 15+ years old) car smogged, titled, and ready to drive for about $600-$700. I doubt there’s anything smogged and driveable for less than a grand now.
