Strange as it may seem, the late 80’s & early 90’s produced some very high quality cars that could go 500,000 + miles if cared for properly.

For instance, Toyota had the quality meter dialed up to 10 because their image was suffering from the previous decade when rust was a problem they had.

I bet you could find a gem in that range for less than a grand, a new record price point for you.

Not necessarily true; someone offered to buy my friend’s Toyota SR5 pickup for $1,500. The dark blue body is generally in excellent shape; the bed is beat up because the truck was their general hauler (plastic bed liners and Rhino liners weren’t available at the time as far as he knew). He has over 320,000 miles on the Toyota. I borrowed it a couple times and my only complaint is the manual transmission in “rush-hour” traffic.

My elderly mother finally sold her 1986 Mercedes 300E for $1 to a guy who helps our family out with repairs and maintenance. Now, that was a deal!

I remember Al Bundy's old Dodge hitting the 1-million mile mark. He messed up, of course, and had to start over.

The Camry and Corolla of the late 80s and early 90s were true workhorse vehicles. Very dependable.
