MARK SHIELDS: And I just wanted to point this out, that Bill Clinton came into office on January 20, 1993. He left on January 20, 2001. He raised taxes to a spectacularly high level, by Republican standards, to 39.6 percent. There were, in Bill Clinton's eight years, 21,872,000 jobs created in the private sector.
George Bush came in, and, following the lead of Mr. Taylor and others, cut taxes to their lowest, to 33 percent. During George Bush's eight years in the White House, from January 20, 2001, to 2009, the country lost 672,000 jobs.
JIM LEHRER: And you think there is a direct connection?
MARK SHIELDS: Well, I mean, there obviously is, because David told us last week that, if we raised it, it was going to hurt the economy.
DAVID BROOKS: Wait. No.
(LAUGHTER)

MARK SHIELDS: Who are we kidding -- two years, let them go up? They were going to go up after 10 years. That's -- the Bush tax cuts were supposed to expire, have to expire, by law, at 10 years. All right?
They will extend them in perpetuity. I mean, there is one organizing principle among all the Republicans, whether they are Tea Parties or just garden-variety Republicans. That is, we don't raise taxes. Barack Obama has created more private sector jobs in this year, in his administration, than Bush did in eight. So, I don't know what we are talking about, ways...
DAVID BROOKS: I'm talking about the right policy.

But, what is the basis for Shields' claim? Where are all these jobs that Mark Shields says that the Obama as created? In the first place, the President doesn't "create" job in the private sector, but during Obama's tenure so far, the figures are worse than any of his postwar predecessors'. As far as I can tell, the economy has lost between 2.4 million and 3.1 million jobs during the 18 months he's been in office, depending on where you start counting, while during Bush's presidency the economy created a net 1.08 million jobs.
What freakin’ planet are these two living on?!?
That’s some good Obama crack!
54% of Americans are no longer buying this Regime Media propaganda.
HORSESHIT
Hey, anyone can LIE!
NO MORE TAX DOLLARS FOR PBS!
Are they just making up numbers now?
As an extremely wise man once said:
“There are lies, damnable lies, and statistics.”
Seems to be the Democrat m o ...lie like a dog.
Utopio.
I swear to God that this whole enitre idiot-ridden administration, as with those who protect the AnnointedIdiot, is one huge lying machine..... =.=
Not to mention the underground economy.
The irony being that Mark Shields is more to the right than David Brooks.
JMHO
Almost all of the jobs created during the Bush administration were during the first 6 years. Almost all of the jobs lost during the Bush administration were during the last 2 years.
What was different between the first 6 years and the last 2 years? Among other things, the Republicans the House of Representatives for the first 6 years, and the Democrats controlled the House for the last 2 years.
This is usually called "lying with statistics".
I know forums like this exist because the media lies.
Is it just me, or does it seem the media lies are getting MUCH MUCH WORSE?
First we have CNN lying about Muslims not burning Bibles. Now we have these two idiots making this ridiculous claim when all you have to do is look at the Unemployment rates of the two presidents in question.
This is Baghdad Bob level.
Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! we have a winner!
job 1 of the republican congress- DEFUND THE LEFT
A brilliant man has been saying this for years (Rush)
What Shields and democrats INTENTIONALY ignore, is that a REPBULICAN CONGRESS during CLINTON’S term CREATED JOBS,and BALANCED the budget. The GOP CONGRESS FORCED Clinton’s hand (Clinton said, “Sure we could balance the budget in 7 year...then he said in 10 years...then he said whatever, but he said it would be TOO painful to do it)
So the GOP did it ANYWAY...the economy grew, the budget was balanced, and CLINTON, being a lying democrat, took credit for it.
Where are these jobs?
I thought about this for a while...and realized...they are mostly in Mexico and China (as it became cheaper to buy imports). So the answer here...is that we need Americans to pack up and leave...and go to Mexico and China. It’s the only answer in relation to the job creation that the President has created.
Shields: David, I’m going to fellate Jim here to cover up my fallacious factoids concocted to make Bush, the worst President we’ve ever had, look even worse. After I’m done, your turn. Just remember that even though you’re a card carrying communist the racist, islamophobe Republican’s think you’re the NYSlimes Conservative. So make it look good!
If you tell a lie enough...
Jobs at start of Bush presidency: 132 million
Jobs at end of Bush presidency: 134 million (after losing 4 million in the last year)
Jobs at beginning of Obama presidency: 134 million
Jobs currently: 131 million
