SEPTEMBER 8--The Florida pastor who is planning to burn a pile of Korans this weekend runs a church that has established a variety of cult-like rules for individuals studying to become ministers, according to the groups rulebook.
The Dove World Outreach Center (DWOC), headed by Islam-hating Rev. Terry Jones, has been widely denounced for its September 11 bonfire plans. The tiny Gainesville church is headed by Jones and his wife Sylvia, a co-pastor.
The DWOCs Academy Rulebook, a copy of which youll find here, was created in November 2007 by Sylvia Jones. The document, which details the standards to which a prospective DWOC minister must adhere, addresses topics such as behavior, study, and communication. It is also filled with the kind of creepy directions that are often associated with cults.
For instance, students are directed to cut off most contact with family members. Family occasions like wedding, funerals or Birthdays are no exception to this rule, the rulebook notes. No phone calls. Exceptions can be made under certain circumstances but only after receiving permission.
The Joneses also barred Singles from having romantic relationships to the opposite sex

He did not say you should hate your mother and father. If anything it is evident Jesus had great love for his mother Mary. So what was He getting at?
In the tradition of the times the eldest son often waited upon his parents so as to inherit their property- if he cared for his parents out of love for his parents and not in expectation of receiving their wealth upon the passing of his father, that was one thing- he is not enslaved to an idol. But Jesus is warning about a form of dependency and idolatry that develops if a man is bound to wait and serve his parents not out of love for them but in order to inherit their wealth, which he has come to believe he is "entitled" to get. If the motive of the son is to inherit, the son isn't in service to his parents or to God he is in service to the promises of a false god, money.
Jesus rightly points out that the son could never be free while his parents lived because his lust for the promised [though not even guaranteed] wealth and his sense of entitlement was so strong it effectively enslaved him and would prevent the on him even from accepting the freely offered salvation of Christ. Many people can, unfortunately, easily abandon impoverished parents- yet these same people cannot abandon wealthy ones and will pass up every opportunity for fear of losing out on what inheritance their parents have to offer. A really bad son might push his parents death along, really bad parents might treat their son like a dog knowing his desires will make him obey, even if resentfully. This kind of dependency is unhealthy physically and spiritually. God in contrast wants all of us to have liberty.
“I dont think anyone is buying into his attempt at religion, he is getting support for doing something that millions of us want to see”
I agree, but aren’t you an order of magnitude low on the number?
You got it right!
Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
I guess your calling Jesus a liar?
Wallid Shoe-bat?
He also supports Westboro Baptist, hope you’re cool with that.
Very interesting point. I wonder though if Pastor Jones falls more into the “useful idiot” category. His website doesn’t reveal any leftist doctrine that I could discern. However, there is this Fivefold Ministry thingy. That’s code for “apostolic reformation” theology (aka latter rain), a belief that apostles and prophets will lead us to a massive revival out of which will emerge a new breed of super-powered spiritually perfected Christians (manifest sons of God) who will literally conquer all of the Church’s enemies and will rule the nations (in what amounts to a Christian version of the Iranian theocracy), um, *before* Jesus returns and as a *condition* of his return. I have next-door neighbors who belong to this denomination.
A stunt like this therefore is like multi-level chess, where Jones might be no more than a pawn who became available to the bigger players because of his grandiose vision of the supernatural victories he could accomplish in the political domain. Just a thought...
There are plenty if Ismalic terrorists, and there are plenty cultist pseudo-Christian creeps like this guy.
There are plenty of Islamic terrorists, and there are plenty of cultist pseudo-Christian creeps like this guy.
Anyone who kills because somebody on the other side of the world inflamed them is 100% responsible for their sins.
So now Jesus Christ and Christians are mentally weak? I am following the instructions of my savior, Jesus Christ, who instructed his apostles to be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves. The Greek word interpreted as “innocent” can also be interpreted as harmless or inoffensive.
One of them wants to use a nuclear weapon on you, the other just wants to light a pile of books on fire....
So? I'd rather have this guy as a neighbor than a Muslin who's cutting off peoples heads in the name of Allah. I'll take this kook any day.
If he buys the Korans with his own money, what business is it of ours what he does with them?
Didn’t Sinead O’Connor rip up a picture of Pope John Paul II on SNL once?
The only mistake of Reverend Jones is his failure to deliver the message to the right audience. IMO, liberal politicians and those on TSG deserve the message more than a mosque does, because Islam isn’t accomplishing a takeover on its own, it accomplishes a takeover by the fact that liberals are blind enough to think that giving Muslims s special status and privilege as a protected class encourages them to act more westernized, and more civilized, and are as I will argue, complicit in what Islam accomplishes. As secular as I ever was or am, I can never understand why some people are blind to what Islam plans to do. They want to overthrow secular systems, secular politicians are no less the infidels than are Christians or Jews, or any other major organized world religion. Islam as a whole despises, and numerous Immams explicitly so, the institutions of abortion, and absolutely abhor homosexuality. There have been numerous protests in which Muslim protesters have talked about stoning homosexuals (compliance with Sharia, or punishing Jews for their past idolatries and unfaithfulness to God (holding a grudge for past biblical events, how these muslims get away with saying or doing what they do in the face of professed secular politicians I will never know, especially in the case of Europe.
In a conflict of defense you defeat the enemy to humble them first. Political Correctness has it backwards.
This guy is scum. Phelps is scum. The media will try to make this idiot the face of the opposition to the mosque, and present this image to the world as what a Christian minister is.
But all he wants to do is light a pile of books on fire? Sure. Keep telling yourself that.
One the eve of the Jewish New Year the US Government demands the destruction of the New and Old Testaments at the same time intimidating a private US citizen for wanting to burn a Koran. Don’t get it yet? The Saudis rule the world.
Don’t believe me? Click here: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/05/bibles-destroye.html
Yes she did, and here it is. What a loon.
It is not mutually exclusive to say that this guy is performing a dumbass publicity stunt...and that he has the Constitutional right to do it and the Zero administration needs to STFU about it. The First Amendment protects unpopular political speech just as much as it protects popular political speech. It is the job of the government of these here United States to make the goatrapers in Saudi et al understand that, not to carry their water for them.
Basically, I think it’s a stupid stunt that will accomplish absolutely nothing, because anybody with a fraction of a brain knew that the Usual Muslim Suspects would lose their falafel over it and that the American left would too. But God bless America for having the freedom to let him do it.
