The White House has tapped a former leader of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Indiana Wildlife Federation as the Asian carp czar to oversee the federal response to keeping the invasive species out of the Great Lakes.
On a conference call today with Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin and other congressional leaders, President Obama's Council on Environmental Quality announced the selection of John Goss to lead the near $80 million, multi-pronged federal attack against Asian carp.
"This is a serious challenge, a serious threat," Durbin said. "When it comes to the Asian carp threat, we are not in denial. We are not in a go-slow mode. We are in a full attack, full-speed ahead mode. We want to stop this carp from advancing."

He has mighty flying fish wings with a tasteful yet ambitious uniform with a CC on it..able to launch millions of dollars into the waiting pockets of more politicians than ever before its Carp Czar
How about super Islamofacist czar
You may be right. I thought that was Pelosi...
You may be right. I thought that was Pelosi...
“Can I be appointed the Porcelin Unicorn Czar?”
I personally want to be the New York waiter buying multi-million dollar buildings with his...tips Czar.
Something smells fishy about all of this. This government just wants to mussel in on the action and only ends up floundering about. Sea for yourself...Obama is the real Tidal Character here and he is otter wise out of his league. He is so out of tuna with America.
This administration gets my endolphins flowing by repeating the same missed-hakes. They must spawn something new to avoid the stench of sending their ordnance orfe home. Maybe if they actually came up with 5 or 6 good ideas in a roe, I’d feel better, but I’ve haddock enough of this carp, myself.
So much of what comes out of this administration sounds like a joke at first...then turns out to be real.
Yeah, Dick. As you yourself have said. It's "a serious threat" that shakes Democrats out of their denial, and gets them into "full-speed ahead mode" to stop the advance of the problem.
But only because — in this case — we're not talking about Islamic jihadis.
Not according to The Toledo Blade or scientists. Question I have is why has the fisheries department allowed the algae to accumulate this long (5 years) without getting it under control? Sounds to me like they need to be replaced with competent management (people who would have been doing something to correct the problem when it was first noticed rather than waiting for scientific backup).
Other states, by the way, have boat inspections (all boats must stop) for prevention of such infestation of lakes and waterways.
Toxic algae blooms choking Lake Erie
After years of recovery, Lake Erie is sick again. Ask the boaters who get the spinach-like clumps of algae on their boat propellers, the tourists grossed out by the sight of pea-green water, the property owners picking up whiffs of stench, the beach-goers confronted by signs urging them to stay out of the water, and the scientists who have said at conferences for at least five years that an ecological backslide is in progress.
Any chance he is trying to match czar numbers with the number of what he considers American states?
Give him time :)
If he's ever held a private sector job, it's not listed there.
If you use the administration's profile for those likely to be hired in this administration, it would be a long shot if you're a normal middle-class taxpaying citizen and happen to be white, Christian or Jewish.
10 years to late. The carp are threatening the Great Lakes at this moment.
No way to discern what is news and what is satire any more. Well, if it sounds plausible it probably is satire.
Thanks for the great laugh on that one! It was laugh out loud funny to me, and I hadn't really had anything more than a small chuckle in quite a long time! Thanks for that, it was very much appreciated!
how much do they get paid?
