Newsweek (JournoLista Hirsh): Hillary Clinton's Political Star Rises
Newsweek ^ | 9/08/10 | Michael Hirsh

Posted on 09/08/2010 10:12:13 AM PDT by maggief

With her boss struggling, the Secretary of State may be this administration's brightest prospect.

Remember Hillary Clinton? The most powerful woman in American politics has kept her head down for most of the first 18 months of her tenure as secretary of State. But she is also, at present, by far the most unscathed senior member of a badly battered administration. And the once-defeated Democratic candidate may have, at present, the most promising political prospects of just about everyone in the administration, specifically including her boss, Barack Obama.

The president’s economic team is reeling, having failed both at bringing the nation out of its doldrums and sending a compelling message of hope or confidence to the country or the world. Obama’s political advisers are getting hammered Right and Left for transforming a golden-tongued political candidate into a tone-deaf leader. Even Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, appears to be considering exile in his home of Chicago, with the mayor’s office newly up for grabs.

Hillary, by contrast, seems to be taking on a new public profile as bright as the pink salmon suit she wore Wednesday to deliver what her staff giddily called a major foreign policy address at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington. In a speech short on specifics but long on bold declarations, Clinton declared the advent of “a new American moment” on the world stage, “a moment when our global leadership is essential.”

In two years, what has she accomplished?

I can’t think of a single thing. Certainly nothing good, but I can’t even think of anything BAD she’s accomplished.

Zero. Zip. Nada.

She’s been a disaster. But they just might throw Bammy under the bus for Hillary. Or ask him to throw himself under there.

Oh, the glowing reporting about Hillary. If she and Sarah were to debate she’d look more like the same old trout rather than pink Salmon.

I truly hope that Hillary Rodham Clinton runs in 2012.
It will further fracture Democrat resolve and cause expensive infighting.

She’s not done with us yet.

Look for her to challenge Zero if his numbers stay low;
or Zero to replace her for slow Joe to fend her off and then run at the end of his turn;
or step up to run in 2016.

Sounds familiar.

Lets hope our candidate has the b*lls to rip her a new one for it.

Not like the last guy.

I think they should re-title that article - “Rush Was Right”.

I think its all whistling past the grave yard. Hillary has evaded bad press so far mainly b/c the light has been beaming on Barry (which is how he likes it). However, she’s been carry his water. When it comes to light she’s nothing more than his stooge its curtains for her political career. In fact she has a doubly high hill to climb. Anyone w/ a D after their name is sunk.

She has doesn't anything and probably quite deliberately so, letting Obama and his goon squad hang themselves while she quietly bides her time as Secretary of State awaiting the DNC to come knocking with hat in hand.

Very Clintonian, if I say so myself.

This is the prelude to the big “stepping down to spend more time with the family” moment. Expect to hear this going into the Christmas holidays. Can you imagine how many hours of coverage she will get during the holidays?

Cat fight! Obama the girly-man against the wicked witch. It would be something to see. And I truly wish it on the Dems. After all, Obama is the chosen one. He can't/won't allow this to happen. Yet, can the Dems continue to support him?

The only reason her “star is rising” is because the lib media is pushing it upward.

They are starting to panic now that their anointed one has begun to fall out of favor, and are desperate to find another front-person for their progressive idiocy.

I’ve changed my mind on this over the last two week. Originally I thought f’sure that she was goign to challenge him in the primaries. The Dems are heading for an electoral disaster of epic proportions this November. The House is gone, and the Senate is within reach for the GOP. You’re going to have leadership battles within the Dem caucus in both Houses. The party will be a mess, a shambles the lefties will be apoplectic, the MSM will be going nuts..the fingerpointing and blame-gaming will be 24/7. Given that the 2012 election cycle begins on November 4th, Hillary would have to decide very soon after to challenge Obama. And then you have a pitched battle in which the already defeated army is engaging in intramural warfare to pick its next general. Even if she on the nomination, I don’t think she could put the party back together to win in 2012. And the economy will be as bad, if not worse..So it may not be worth having. The only scenario is if the Dems convince Obama NOT to run again...then she can come in as the savior..
