In Support of Westboro Baptist

By Fran Ingram - Posted on 21 April 2010

On Sunday April 18, Westboro Baptist Church came to Gainesville. One of their stops was a liberal "Open doors, open hearts, open minds," church near us, so we took part of our Sunday Service time and went as a church to stand with them.

/snip

I have been asked most often in the last days about the 'protests' that Westboro does at funerals.

The arguemant (from very angry people with extremely ugly language) is that their attendance at funerals is offensive and a fallen soldier is NOT a sign of God's wrath.

My answer:

Westboro Baptist is not anti-military or anti-USA. Rather the opposite, actually. Do some research. They go to funerals because the Bible says that a fallen soldier is a sign of God's wrath and a reminder of the condition of this world, a fallen world, in sin. We all know that. None of us want to fight wars. We have to, and we honor the fallen for their sacrifice, but funerals are also a chance to repent and get our lives right with God before our own comes along.

The soldier who is already dead knows what's coming, whether they are in heaven or hell. I think they would be glad for the extra reminder to loved ones that they still have time to make a choice and use the rest of their time given here for God rather than wasting it, in a spiritual sense.

We have also learned that when you speak out about what God hates, you will be hated. We do not agree with all of Westboro's methods, but we admire their determination to find radical ways to preach the truth of the Bible, as we do. Most churches and Pastors in America try to stand on neutral ground. They are lost, weak and sick and need to repent.

Senior Pastor Sylvia Jones wrote on facebook:

Today was a historical day! People who did not know each other with nothing in common but the word of God marching in unity and putting the kingdom first, ahead of everything else! What can be more important than saving people from hell? We must stand on the truth, the word of God instead on finding reasons why we cannot be in unity! Yes we can! We can obey God and save people from going to hell!

You can find more pictures on our facebook page here...

At DWOC we are also very pro-America, pro-Military, AND super, radically concerned about people's salvation. That's why we go after Islam and say it is of the devil - it is anti-Christian and anti-America. In this liberal world, names and labels get thrown about and twisted at random. Don't we all get angry with the media for preaching half truths which amount to lies?
To my Christian friends, get your Bibles out and read the OT Prophets. They were hated too for speaking God's words of truth, then killed. I would rather be right with God than right with facebook friends. Where are you?

And another answer:

If we lived in a sinless, no devil world, there would be no war. We have chosen sin, there are therefore wars, and we all suffer, we all need to repent. I'm OK with your thinking I am sick, but think about the fact that the Bible is what I am talking about, not my own ideas. Don't you think that a fallen soldier reflects some of what is wrong with the world? Not the soldier but the war itself?

What is the point of not making people angry and uncomfortable in this life if that means they go on, clueless, rebellious, straight to hell. I would have to answer to God for that. I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ and to stand with other Christians that preach it truthfully. Did the prophets and leaders in the Bible, even Jesus, did they always peach a nice sweet message? Did they always respect the sensibilities and traditions of the people? Think about it. Read your Bibles, people!

I have a Grandfather that died in WWII.  I am proud of his contribution to that war. But he and my family are Christian and eternal salvation is the most important thing on our hearts. We do not think Westboro are hateful. They point out what God hates, desperate, like the Prophets of old that no one go to hell.

Jesus said, in Matthew 7:13,14

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

That narrow gate is a knowledge of the truth, a fear of God, Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross for your sins, repentance from our sins and wickedness, as we are warned throughout the Bible. This is the hope for you, the hope for your family, the hope for our Nation, for the world.

And yes, if my husband died I would be glad if Westboro would come and hold their signs and sing at his funeral. Many people would be shocked, but they might be shocked into a fear of God and a decision for Christ. How will they know if someone does not tell them?

Ever heard of the Knights Templar?

And a straight forward question....do you think God wants you to submit to Islam?

Or is Islam the antithisis of Christianity?

Do you think God would want you to honor and respect a religion founded by a pedophile?

Seriously?

Thanks earlJam. Talk about turning things around, eh? The Koran-burning "minister" supports these assholes:

I couldn't see the images before, but now that I can go back, this is disgusting.. this post isn't just a defense of Westboro, these people are marching with Westboro

Again, rationally it makes you wonder what their motivation is.

Oh. I see. You lost the argument from a religious POV. Now you want to “go military”?

Bringing Petraeus into the mix is a bad, bad idea too.

This guy thinks burning Korans is bad (bad!)

But burning Bibles in Afghanistan? Sure! That’s OK.

Seriously Mr. (or Mrs) Moderator (one who can zot me to hell and back), you gotta come up with a better reason to defend Obama and Holder other than Dove Outreach is a bunch of idiots and because Petraeus thinks it a bad idea.

Seriously.

How can you rectify this when the pastor of DWOC will burn the Qu’ran in protest of 911? It doesn’t compute. Since he must either support jihad, or protest jihad.

By my calculation, to burn the Qu’ran, he protests jihad and supports our troops.

With that in mind, I can only surmise your motive to link WBC with DWOC is a strategy designed from the Whitehouse.

If the DWOC supports the killing of our troops, as you suggest, with this pic offered from WBC files, then show us some pics with actual members of DWOC carrying like signs.

Do this, and I will join your cause.

If you can’t. Then I will regard you as a propagandist for Islam.

So you cant answer a simple riddle?

When is yelling “fire” in a crowded theatre protected speech?

Answer...when there is a fire...

The preacher is calling attention to the dangers of radical islam...by putting a target on his own back...

The theatre is on fire....and he’s yelling fire...

You may sit an ignore the preacher....you will not be able to ignore the fire...

I think the whole thing is a publicity stunt to begin with but now Obama’s tried his best to turn this into a pivotal media event rather than ignoring it and letting them have their 15 minutes on Youtube and then fade into internet wastebin history.

Obama might as well be the one lighting the matches with the way they've blown this story out of the water. The TRULY dangerous thing happening here is the way Obama and Company are attempting to frame a group who proclaim themselves to be Christians (don't know, never heard of this church before) and trying to point the blame at them for actions that may or may not be taken overseas by a bunch of homicidal cult wackos who will shoot at our military with or without provocation anyway. They are already in harm's way daily and nothing will make the Taliban crazier or more PO'd then they already are. This little church just doesn't have that kind of power over people but Obama is trying to make it look like they do.

Now, the question is why? What does Obama and his Muslim friends have to gain by blowing this story out of context and proportion?

No He does not want me to submit to any other but Himself...
and His church. I have no respect for Islam...it is evil. But,
so is the so-called preacher, Phelps. He is using a denomination
for his own hateful agenda, and I can’t see God approving that
either. Not from what I’ve read. Seriously.

I have heard of Knights Templar but have no idea what it is.

By my calculation, to burn the Qu’ran, he protests jihad and supports our troops.

Or he may be a tool of the left.. think about it (also note my comment above regarding the meaning of book burning).. now, on 9.11, all the news, instead of being about the Muslim terrorists who attacked us, will be about "those Christian book burners".. He is pals with and marches with Westboro Baptist who has the same tactic, make a mockery of Christians through outrageous antics. Ie, they are being used as a propaganda tool by the jihadists.

I may not be right, but considering what is at the source linked above (their own Church's site) and who they associate with, it is worth raising the question.

You miss the T-shirt perhaps?

“Islam is of the devil”

Most of us already know this...especially after 9/11...

“I think they would be glad for the extra reminder to loved ones that they still have time to make a choice “

Yeah, because everyone who lost a loved one in a violent death wants to be told he died a sinner and is going to hell. That is *so* comforting. And carrying around signs saying ‘God hates fags” at funerals is *so* in keeping with Jesus’ “Love Thy neighbor” commandment. (/sarc)

That is true, but I don’t conclude what a person’s motivation is by their t-shirt, bumper sticker, or signs. Those are elements that can be used in many ways, such as making one appear to take a certain position.

Phelps wears the mantle of Christian but has the purpose of destroying Christianity.

I’ve been speaking of Westboro Baptist NOT about the preacher at Dove burning the Koran. If he wants to burn the Koran, I say send him cases of them so he can light up the skyline.

Get off your little self righteous ass and reread my posts. Oh but one of my posts was pulled by the moderator...sort of ironic don’t you think?

Building a mosque at Ground Zero is to ‘property rights’
what burning a Koran is to 1st amendment rights.
Sometimes having the right to do something doesn’t mean its the right thing to do.

if the message intended is that the Koran is a hateful book for an intolerant religion, burning it is a poor way to make the point. It gives Christians a black eye. Far better to simple EDUCATE people.

They have linked themselves with Phelps and WBC- Satan didn’t do it. The White House didn’t do it.

And they are NOT Christians.

If they are not Christians espousing Christian beliefs, then they must be from satan. How else can it be explained?

I am not now, nor have I ever been a proponent of the activities of WBC. I detest with extreme prejudice in what I consider their diabolical activism. Nor am I a proponent of the Christian concept of turning the other cheek. Which they must be. But I don't see this with the DWOC. Since their activism takes an opposite approach to worldwide jihad.

Perhaps that is why you don't view DWOC as Christian? They don't turn the other cheek, since they take an active role against worldwide jihad?

Ah...the “yes but”....

“so is the so-called preacher, Phelps. He is using a denomination for his own hateful agenda, and I can’t see God approving that either. Not from what I’ve read. Seriously.”

And you’ve also read of god smiting those he doesnt approve of...

And phelps is not Jones...

“I have heard of Knights Templar but have no idea what it is.”

Then educate yourself:
