City Council Meetings to Begin with Muslim Prayers By BOB CONNORS Updated 6:50 PM EDT, Tue, Sep 7, 2010

In the wake of the battle over a mosque at Ground Zero, a move by Hartford City Council is sure to have its critics.

The Council announced Tuesday that it has invited local imams to perform Islamic invocations at the beginning of the Council meetings in September.

Though meetings don't regularly begin with any form of prayer, an email from the Common Council called it "an act of solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters."

The email even referenced the ongoing issue in New York. "One of the goals of the Council is to give a voice to the many diverse peoples of the City, which is especially important given the recent anti-Islam events throughout the country."

Council President rJo Winch called it an important move for the Council. "I feel it is very important that, as a Council, we project a culture of inclusiveness in the City of Hartford. Too often it is our differences that divide us. In my opinion, it is our combination of differences that makes us strong," Winch said.

“The UNREAL part of the story: Though meetings don’t regularly begin with any form of prayer, an email from the Common Council called it “an act of solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters.”

Yes, that is unreal! Where is the “separation of Church and State” crowd on this one?

Now I know my birth state of CT has gone to pot for good!

“Why wait for the commie ACLU. The citizens should be making the argument and filing a lawsuit.”

I agree, but the citizens of CT are the ones who elect Chris Dodd over and over.

So what can I say about my birth state? It is held tight by Marxist/Progressive/Socialist/DEMS!

I think they should serve bacon at the beginning of every meeting!

When Christians start getting attacked openly in the streets for their faith, people like these will remain completely silent.

There is indeed a movement against Christianity afoot, and it is gaining speed.

I noticed that the story has been updated to state this:

“On Facebook, Council Minority Leader Luis Cotto wrote: “We start every single council meeting with a prayer. 99% of the prayers are Christian based, and in three years I recall one Rabbi coming through.””

It no longer says that the meetings are never opened with any prayer at all.

As a Christian, I have brothers and sisters IN Christ. I do not have any Muslim brothers and sisters. My Father is the Father of the Son of God. The father of the Muslims is Satan.

Half-brothers and half-sisters, then...

*nully ducking and running for cover*

These idiot dhimmis will be crying “why is this happening?” when their muslim brothers are standing over them with a sword.

I rather doubt that.

They will think it is so proper and appropriate that it simply will never occur to them to to question the natural course of things...

So it's no prayer except Muslim prayer as a 'sign' of solidarity? Wow.

As in:

There is no "god" but allah, and mohammed is is (only) prophet

Well, DUH!

The Constitution says nothing about the "separation of Mosque and State"!

Where is the proof that council meetings don’t regularly begin with any form of prayer?

It does suggest that. If tacitly. But it's not lost on anyone.

Next month - a Rabbi? a Priest? Minister leading prayer before the meeting (much to the shock of those who've come to expect no such 'intrusion')? I won't hold my breath.../s

Um...the article: though meetings don’t regularly begin with any form of prayer, an email from the Common Council called it “an act of solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters.

American law is the OPPOSITE of sharia law.

North or south OH? Curious, which has better weather in your opinion?

I'm in central Ohio in a suburb west of Columbus. You don't want to live in Northern Ohio, especially the northeast quadrant, Awful weather, tons of snow, buckets of rain. And that part of the state is where most of the moonbats and union thugs reside. It's very much an extension of Western PA.

Take Ohio and draw it into quarters, NE, NW, Se, SW, with a 50 mile circle dead center for Columbus.

I've explained the NE; it's the pits.

NW is rural, conservative, much like Indiana. Watch out for tornadoes and cold winters.

SE is rural Appalachia. Poor, democrat but not so much liberal as old-time coal country types. Basically an extension of all things west Virginia.

SW is very conservative, Cincy is kind of a dump but has some beautiful suburbs. SW is like Kentucky, Now central Ohio literally combines all those areas. Columbus is an OK city, but be prepared to have everything that is OHio State shoved down your throat, especially football. Thank God we have the NHL here now. The weather is gloomy from November to April. Bring a sun lamp. But not terribly cold or snowy. Summers can be humid, but rarely do we see 100 degrees every 10 years.
