WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House said Tuesday that a Florida church's threat to burn copies of the Muslim holy book could endanger U.S. troops abroad, while the State Department denounced the plan as "un-American" and said it would put American diplomats and travelers at risk.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs noted the U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Gen. David Petraeus, has warned that images of a burning Quran would be used by extremists to incite violence.

What’s the big to-do about burning a work of fiction?

Do you think it is wrong for Petraeus to get Muslims to fight on our side in Iraq and Afghanistan?

If we are to have Muslims fighting on our side, I want Muslims that won’t be offended by something so trivial.

No, the REPORTING of Koran burning will endanger the troops. Maybe Petraeus and Hussein should decry the MSM for reporting it. If you are going after the First Amendment, why not shut down the Press? Hmmm...

...Gen. David Petraeus, has warned that images of a burning Quran would be used by extremists to incite violence.

Images of two burning and collapsing buildings incited violence too, General, of which you were part.

I wouldn’t burn one of their holy books but the burning of anonymous books around the country on that day would send a significant message - Let the Eastern Church in Turkey own land, treat women like you love them, don’t send your kiddies into the marketplace with bombs attached to them, quit calling the decent people of this earth pigs and monkeys, build Churches and Temples in Arab, Persian and Islamic countries, quit tormenting the Coptic Christians, and on and on/ - the big one’s coming, that is the FINAL CRUSADE!

In reading the article, I came to realize it was not
our troops they are worried about but the diplomats
of the state department, who are currently insulated
from the effects of their actions.

Does anyone remember when Newsweek printed a bogus story in its international issue, that soldiers at Gitmo had flushed a Koran down the toilet?

This question is rhetorical because I know everyone here remembers.

After the riots and 7 deaths, they had to retract it and I don't think ANYONE condemned Newsweek for endangering the lives of our soldiers. Could be wrong. Don't think so.

Good to see the US State Department giving credence to savages who think that burning Afghan women for learning to read is okay, but threatening to stick a match to a paperback book justifies violent reprisals.

Can we all get some perspective?

What does it matter to an Indonesian if a pastor burns a Koran in America?

They say Christ was a low level prophet,Christ said, He who does not enter through the door is a liar and a thief..
Mohammad is a liar and a thief, and if we as human beings can’t look at Hitler or Islam and proclaim it to be the evil it is we are through. I don’t care if it hurts their feelings I would rather die than be taken over or even act as if it is a religion. I say they can have Islam, Go to the hellholes where sharia rules, stay there, leave us alone, its just that we can’t trust them to do that. They only want complete control...We should kick their crap out of western nations..
I have the right to burn their koran, they can burn a Bible, but they should not be allowed to tell us we cannot act or speak against what we know is evil and false and take our freedoms.

Since when do these people care about our troops? They are willing to sacrifice the troops so as not to “offend” the practitioners of the religion of peace. (Ft Hood)
Suddenly they care about the troops?
