Members of the New Black Panther Party showed up in Gainesville Monday to let The Dove World Outreach Center know it is outraged by its plan to burn the Koran.
"I believe in peace but if you aggress me, I am going to fight back," said State Chairman of the New Black Panther Party Mikhail Muhammad.
The church plans to burn the holy book Saturday on the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
The pastor's plan has reached all the way to Afghanistan where Monday hundeds of demonstrators burned a cardboard effigy of the Gainesville pastor, Terry Jones.
"We are not surprised at all that they are responding in that way because that's the nature of Sharia law, that's the nature of violent Islam," said Jones.

"We basically want to warn Pastor Terry Jones that if he burns this Koran, he's going to insight a wrath and chastisement on himself that he will not be able to bare (sic) and all he's going to do is add more division between Muslims and Christians when we should be sitting down at the table to resolve our differences," said Muhammad.
The New Black Panther Party say it will be back in Gainesville Saturday to show the church and the world they won't stand for religious hatred.

True, it’s not Berkeley, but I sure remember all of the “Divest from South Africa” demonstrations in front of the Admin Building when I was there.
To be sure, there’s nothing in the Bible that commands Christians to be burning Korans or any heretic work (the closest thing is an incident, recorded without comment, where a former magician burned his own magic books). In the American political system, there is nothing to forbid these people from burning books belonging to them either. But is it spiritually wise? It seems uncomfortably like trying to sass Satan.
I am burning a Chinese one, a Russian one, and an Arabic one. DOOM ON THEM ALL!
Uh, hello. YOU invited yourself to this little party Mr. Mikhail Muhammad. Whatever azzwhippin you get along the way is your own fault.
BTW Mr. Mikhail Muhammad, what is your REAL name homie? George Washington Carver Jackson? Billy-Wayne Clinton Jefferson? Because your dressup buddies names are Al, Ernie and Michael.
Unfortunately, panthers are a protected species in FL.
To be honest, there are a few Modern Translations of the Bible that I would love to publicly burn. "The Message" comes to mind. That and the "TNIV."
No, it's the black racist. Watch the video; it's all words right outta his own ill-edumacated mouth.
I guess you must have missed the part of the verse that says that these new Christians burned their Idolatrous Sacred books "IN THE SIGHT OF EVERYONE"
They wanted the idolaters to know that they were rejecting their idolatry and burning their sacred texts. They did, in fact, launch a media blitz, since it was reported in every Bible ever printed after that event.
This church apparently owns a copy of the Koran. They need to burn it.
The issue at hand is not what was said, it is the spelling in the article.
That’s part of it. Anti-Christian leftists see Muslims as “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”, until it’s time to throw them under the bus, too. But by then it will be too late for the leftists...as the Muslims will have gained enough strength and numbers to take over. I doubt that we’ll be around to witness all that though. At least, I hope not.
This event doesn’t have the former magicians, etc. buying magic books in order to burn them. That would be the only true parallel.
Hmmmm who does he think he is? There are places around here where it would be extremely "unwise" to threaten Christians. Extremely unwise.
Suppose he thinks as long as Obozo is residing at 1600 Penn. Ave. he has a "get out of jail card". We shall soon see if that nonsense continues.
Maybe they asked Mohammed for a written statement and that’s what he furnished. However we’d expect any intelligent news agency to qualify the misspelled words with [sic].
In solidarity, I will burn a copy of the koran on Saturday. Does Borders’ sell them?
So, but I suspect a lot of today's whiny feel-good, Purpose Driven Christians would have advocated that rather than burn the Socerery books, that they should have sold them to feed the poor.
No, they publicly burned them and probably pissed off a lot of the idolaters in the process.
The truth remains that you have no genuine parallel.
Your comments/observations are well made. It is not a little dismaying that they need to be made at all
