Reade Seligmann is now a first-year law student. He is into his second week of classes at Emory University School of Law.
In an e-mail response to my query, Reade says he is excited to be starting what he hopes will be a long and fulfilling career in law. He reports that he already has a heavy assignment load but that he is happy to be an L1.
He concludes, "Thanks again for all of your support and and please send my best to all of my friends in the liestoppers crew."

I am very pleased that this outstanding young man has not only survived the nightmare in Durham, but thrived. He did well at Brown University, both academically and as a leader of the lacrosse team. I am sure that he will meet the challenges of law school with the same determination, intelligence and good-heartedness that has marked his life so far. He is a winner!

Good for him!

Determination and toughness. The sky is his limit.
Determination, toughness, and a thorough exposure to the lamestream media and political correctness run amok.
After I posted my comment I checked in on Wikipedia to see how our old buddy Mike Nifong was doing. The guy is being totally financially destroyed and I can’t work up even one tiny bit of pity for the sonofabitch.
I shudder to think what would have happened to those LaX players if the Dipsh!t in Chief had been in the White Hut at the time.
“Hopefully Rede has acquired hobbies aside from hiring strippers to come to his house.”
Just for the record, he, like many another at the party, didn’t know there were going to be strippers until they got there and were asked to contribute to their fee.
The party was consolation for the team’s having to miss Spring Break. (What were other students nationwide doing during Spring Break?)
Some 20 other Duke organizations hired strippers that year, including the basketball team. (Nobody fired Coach K.)
In fact, when the strippers arrived and were not as expected (older, for one thing), the students let them in anyway, out of sympathy, rather than cancel and send them back. They were utterly naive and knew nothing about the way women of the street know how to hustle money from marks.
There was no shortage of villains in that story but the biggest villain in the picture was the ordinary little goofball living and voting in and around Durham NC who returned Mike Nifong to office after the whole world knew what was actually happening. There is no excuse for that.
And before he went off to college he knew that strippers were bad news and to treat all women the way he would want his sister to be treated.
“My son was building a house for a family in the New Orleans 9th Ward during spring break.”
Nice. (By the way, the lacrosse team contributed more to Katrina relief than any other Duke team.)
“And before he went off to college he knew that strippers were bad news and to treat all women the way he would want his sister to be treated. “
If there’s a team party and you’re a sophomore, you go to the team party. Seligmann didn’t even want to go. Once he arrived, he stayed very briefly and left immediately after the “dance” ended.
For that he got a year of hell, public death threats, thrown out of school, and a lot of notoriety he never wanted.
His father was raised by a black family, making his putative grandparents black. But even that didn’t spare him from being
savaged as a racist, in the 21st century’s answer to “Scottsboro”.
Nevertheless in all that he never answered back and showed a great deal of class (as they all did) in how he responded.
Oh SHUT UP.
Dang, I should look him up and offer to go down there and buy him lunch or dinner.
That’s incredibly clueless. Is your posting typically thus?
Yes, we know, you’re perfect, and your children are perfect.
You are full of it, and that’s saying it kindly.
So if a smoker is falsely accused of arson and has his name dragged through the mud in a year-long bogus politically-driven investigation, he should learn to stop smoking?
