DETROIT, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- A member of a Michigan-based Christian militia group called Hutaree might not be competent to stand trial on federal charges of conspiracy, prosecutors say.
Federal prosecutors want Jacob Ward to undergo a psychiatric examination, the Detroit Free Press said Thursday.
In a motion filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit, prosecutors said there is doubt as to whether Ward is competent to stand trial on charges that members of the Lenawee County-based group conspired to overthrow the U.S. government and attack local and federal law enforcement officers.
"This belief is based upon statements made by the defendant regarding perceived problems with the Huron, Ohio, Police Department, and his claimed relationship with a foreign national allegedly in the custody of the Central Intelligence Agency," prosecutors said in court documents.
Ward, 33, of Huron, Ohio, and several others were arrested in March and charged with plotting to overthrow the U.S. government and attempting to use weapons of mass destruction.
Ward has been free on bond and his attorney agreed to the evaluation, the newspaper said.
Never trust the gov.
Sounds like they don’t have evidence so they are going for the KGB “mentally unsound” determination.
Nope, and I have no idea whether or not this militia was plotting to murder policemen.
But Jesus also said an armed man keeps his house (against robbers), and there is a point, I think, where Jesus would support a right of self-defense, even against government agents, and even the use of lethal force in self-defense. I don’t think we’re there yet.
Just saying.

Instructing his disciples to by swords is not the same thing as establishing a Christian militia.
by = buy
my theory is that this arrest of this particular militia group was a shot over the bow by the Obama Admin.
But now I think they realize their premise for arrest is very very thin.
"Talking" about doing something is very different than actually doing something.
We have heard allegations but so far I have yet to hear who actually made the allegations.
I would think if they had a case that was strong we would be having the hearing on charges already but I have yet to hear of such.
I think that your speculation about what Jesus might have said is less interesting than reviewing what he actually said.
What is made clear is that never, in Scripture, does Jesus command the disciples to draw their swords, and He rebukes Peter and heals the servant on the one known occasion when Peter, not waiting for Jesus’s answer as to whether swords should be used, draws his to kill the servant (the sword used was not our western broadsword, and thus, kills were made by bringing the blade down upon the victim to cleave the skull in two; Peter is apparently unskilled with a blade and misses, cutting off a piece of the ear.
Nowhere else in Scripture are the disciples commanded to carry weapons, nor do they command the first century Christians to take up swords.
“But Jesus also said an armed man keeps his house (against robbers), “
As part of a logical argument that He cannot derive His power against Beelzebub. Context is key.

Thank you for the reference to context. I see the spatial context, but not how the argument relates to the “house divided” argument.
Then I refer you to the text:

Thanks for the cross-references. Would Jesus then be the “strong man” who is plundering Satan’s house? It is attempting to follow that analogy that confuses me. So too does the taking away armor or the tying up.
That is how I, and some other Christians, understand it.
I find that this gives a helpful explanation of the analogy.
