DETROIT, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- A member of a Michigan-based Christian militia group called Hutaree might not be competent to stand trial on federal charges of conspiracy, prosecutors say.
Federal prosecutors want Jacob Ward to undergo a psychiatric examination, the Detroit Free Press said Thursday.
In a motion filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit, prosecutors said there is doubt as to whether Ward is competent to stand trial on charges that members of the Lenawee County-based group conspired to overthrow the U.S. government and attack local and federal law enforcement officers.
"This belief is based upon statements made by the defendant regarding perceived problems with the Huron, Ohio, Police Department, and his claimed relationship with a foreign national allegedly in the custody of the Central Intelligence Agency," prosecutors said in court documents.
Ward, 33, of Huron, Ohio, and several others were arrested in March and charged with plotting to overthrow the U.S. government and attempting to use weapons of mass destruction.
Ward has been free on bond and his attorney agreed to the evaluation, the newspaper said.
This is certainly the strangest story.
Haven’t read hardly anything about it lately.
What has happened? Are all these people still in jail? Did they ever really do anything at all?
There is no such thing as a Christian militia.
At the same time James T. Lee was getting ready to capture and hold hostage the DIscovery building in Bethesday MD.
James was obviously smarter than the Hutaree crowd. First of all he used the Algore litany to 'splain his militancy.
If anyone thinks this isn't a lesson to other nutball groups in this country............. they'll all be doing this now since it got James inside, with bombs, and a gun, and a whole big bunch of publicity!
The Hutaree guy here is going in for a nutcase evaluation.
A questions ~ are FBI agents competent?
The discovery center is in Silver Spring, MD, not Bethesda.
Re: “No such thing as a Christian militia” (Luke 22:35-38):
Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered.
He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’[a]; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”
The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.” “That is enough,” he replied.
So, just darn.
You think that means Jesus wanted us to organize and plot to murder policemen?
No one said that, but your post seemed to indicate that a proto-military group, such as a militia, couldn’t be made up of true Christians.
I would suggest you read up on the history of the early Church, the Theban Legion and Thomas Aquinas in particular before holding that position.
In the meanwhile, if that is not what you meant, please clarify your position.
It’s information like this that makes me worry that as these boys grow up, they will welcome Shariah Law with open arms. All because their mothers deserve to be punished.
Oops - somehow I posted this on the wrong thread.
PROPAGANDA-PING!

Muslims, Latin Gang members and Black perps are always “youths, militants, teens or young men”. Any suspicious Anglo is “Christian, separatist, Nazi, far-Right, extremist”.
The Left loves to manipulate language.
That's not what I tried to say, LOL. The word militia has a meaning in the Constitution. We can have a Michigan State Militia, but not a Christian Militia. This was just a terrorist group that the media is trying to call Christian.
This basically means that anyone on DU would walk.
Ah, I understand what you were trying to say now. I still would disagree with you, since a militia doesn’t require the approval of a branch of government (remember, the militia is the people resisting the oppression of the government), but I do understand what you’re trying to say.
I also have to wonder if they were really terrorists or if there’s more to the story here. Remember, we only know what the media tells us in this case and do you really trust the MSM to tell the truth?
“This was just a terrorist group that the media is trying to call Christian.”
I would say that this is just a group that the government and the media are trying to call Terrorists and Christians
Something funny did go on here. The informer was a Muslim, Matt Savino, from another militia.
