WWL-TV in New Orleans has confirmed the Coast Guard is responding to a rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.
Dozens are reported injured.
According to the Coast Guard, it happened 80 miles south of Grand Isle.
Rescue choppers from New Orleans and Houston are responding.
The injured will be taken to hospitals in various coastal areas from Houston to the Louisiana/Mississippi border area.
Let us know what you find out.
That is also a very good question. I’ve only been involved since 2006, so I’ll check with some of the old-timers.
Odd timing. The day after a federal judge stikes down the second moratorium on drilling in the Gulf.
Yep. It does sound at least possible that BP and associates “discovered” a cheaper way of drilling that had the unfortunate tendency to not handle high pressures too well. Others have copied this “good idea”.
“he never hid his agenda to implement policies that would cause the price of energy to skyrocket’
Unfortunately he did, through his control of the media. There were never any mainstream news stories about Obama wanting to increase energy costs. Democrat talking points have always been the opposite.
Obama, like democrat leaders and socialists in general, can never stand up and admit his true beliefs or announce his real agenda.
He has no cohones.
Never been determined?!?!? The blowout of natural gas ignited when it was sucked into the generator engines, among the dozens of other ignition sources that huge gas cloud consumed. It would have only been a mystery if it had not exploded after that blowout.
Not one in 66 years
You better count again.
Once is happenstance.
Twice is coincidence.
Third time is enemy action.
CA....
Gol... I think I'm in the wrong business !
Appearantly I’m ignorant in spelling ignorate.
Fairly funny actually.
So, have you learned anything about oil rig/platform fires yet? Still think they rarely happen?
And my post graduate work in history excuses me from unfounded claims of being ‘ignorate’.
<><><><<>
post graduate work in history? Clearly not the history of the oil and gas industry.
Would not the hallmark of a good historian be research first, opine second?
The folks on this thread speaking from experience with the industry have the high ground in this discussion.
The Mexican Cartels do have submarines blowing up some rigs to keep the Coast Guard busy would make some sense.

Our; as in=U.S. owned,'off the coast of the United States', as self-described in all of the articles below when this happened.

It’s not like there are any fossil fuel hating lefties that are so crazy they are willing to blow up the discovery channel offices or anything like that. No, eco terrorists are simply a figment of your imagination.
I. ignorate
1.Second-person plural present tense of ignorare
2.Second-person plural imperative of ignorare
3.Feminine plural of ignorato
II. ignorate
1. to render ignorant.
2. to erase knowledge of.
III. ignorate
To actively ignore the facts. Someone who’s ignorant will understand if you just give them the facts, but someone who ignorates will either put their fingers in their ears and shout “THE WORLD IS FLAT!” or make up other “facts” that conveniently support what they believed to begin with.
BAFFIN BAY, Greenland, September 2, 2010 (ENS) - Four Greenpeace activists who climbed a Cairn Energy oil rig in Greenland waters were arrested this morning and are now being held in police custody in Greenland.
The activists first scaled the oil rig Stena Don on Tuesday. They attached hanging platforms to the underside of the rig where they camped out in tents with self-heating meals until last night.
Too suspicious.
Judge just denied a drilling ban? Uh huh.
