Charlotte, N.C. A few months ago, I sat with some friends in a pizza place in Chapel Hill, N.C., engaged in my own version of a beer summit. A successful Connecticut entrepreneur, a Wall Street executive, and a retired senior bank officer pummeled me with questions about my support of President Obama. Politically outnumbered, I ended up playing defense most of the night.
I get myself into these situations because my conversion from moderate, middle-aged, Southern conservative to Obama campaign foot soldier got splashed all over the Web after an opinion piece I wrote for the Monitor went viral and briefly turned me into a liberal darling. The questions I was getting that night were not the Sarah Palin-like So hows that hopey, changey thing workin out for ya? kind of question. These were insightful questions from intelligent friends interested in a constructive dialogue about politics.
The problem for Mr. Obama and Democrats is that its not just Republicans asking questions anymore. Two years ago, 52 percent of independents backed Obama. Today, according to an Associated Press poll, just 3 in 10 say they want Democrats to retain control of Congress. Nine in 10 say the economy is the No. 1 problem, and more trust Republicans to deal with it. What happened?
Campaign promises vs. reality In 2008, independents backed Obama because they believed he would end the war in Iraq, focus on growing the economy, improve the standing of the United States in the world, and raise the quality of debate in Washington in order to solve problems facing the country.
Though Obama campaigned on shifting resources away from Iraq and toward Afghanistan, independents are questioning the wisdom of his surge in Afghanistan.(continued)

So this is really a trial balloon for Hillary 2012, since their Messiah is tanking?
Not sure he is the banker, this is his statement:
*A successful Connecticut entrepreneur, a Wall Street executive, and a retired senior bank officer pummeled me with questions...*
When a liberal says he supports any Republican instead, the response from leftists is rage and threats of violence.
Got news for you bub. If you voted for Obama, you ain’t even close to being a conservative. And you certainly aren’t a man.
Some people who think themselves to be a Conservative haven’t got clue one what they really are.
There’s absolutely no way that a well grounded Conservative could EVER vote for a guy with Obama’s beliefs, and questionable history.
All I can say is if he’s really a “conservative” he’s a very gullible one, to put it extremely kindly...
The less kind answer is he is either a faux conservative or is simply an idiot...
That clown isn’t a conservative and never was. His article is all about him being an independent moderate.
>> What happened?
They say a conservative is a liberal who’s been mugged. Well, we’ve all been mugged by Obama/Pelosi, and the muggers have announced their intention to beat, sodomize, and strangle us next. Anyone that is still claiming to be “independent” and supporting Obama is a fool.
Read the bottom of the article. He’s a banker, and obviously one of his friends is a banker.
At this point, I could not interact with any person on a friendship level who would vote for Obama in 2012. There would be no respect or trust on which to build a relationship.
I know regular middle-class folk who voted for Obama. People who aren’t very political normally and who voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004 and then fell for the media hype of 2006 and beyond, about how Bush was ruining the country.
They voted for Obama, for “change”.
They are very, very, very sorry right now. Every single one of them.
I wouldn’t call them “conservatives”, of course. But they represent a significant number of Obama’s 2008 vote count.
And now he’s lost them and he ain’t EVER getting them back!
“I don’t know any actual conservatives who backed Mr. Obama, do you? He’s a banker?! And he voted for Obama/Biden? That’s like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders!!”
Yup. The “I’m a conservative” line he spews is 100% delustion, propaganda, or both.
“So this is really a trial balloon for Hillary 2012, since their Messiah is tanking?”
You got it! Hence this glowing line of idiocy after praising Hillary’s name: “Our allies now see us through the lens of partnership and thoughtfulness.”
No, they see us as weak and ineffectual. At best.
He’s a compassionate conservative.
He calls himself a banker, but more precisely he’s an insurance guy—an insurance marketer for a bank holding co. To me it’s useful distinction: a banker should be more astute on the economy.
Just looked at this: www.falconparty.com
Looks like it’s got DH all over it.
Did he found it?
“Whatever happens in November, Ill be back with my friends in Chapel Hill. Basketball season is just around the corner.
Jonathan Curley is a banker.”
Let me guess a few things about Mr. Curley. He is originally not from NC, most likly an inport from NY. He is a banker because he manages a branch bank. He probably has a title of Vice President. Half of all bank employees are Vice Presidents. Finally, his affiliation with UNC Chapel Hill probably means his is as gay as a 3 dollar bill. With that said I wish to add “Go Wolfpack”!!!
These people are just fools, and I have people just like him in my family who voted for the One. Why couldn’t people see what so obvious about the socialist Obama from day one? A lot of Kool Aie was drunk in 2008, and I’m still bitter about it.
