Move the mosque!
Seven in ten New Yorkers say the proposed mosque/Islamic community center near Ground Zero should be relocated because of opposition from 9/11 families — and an equal number want state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to probe the group’s finances, a new statewide poll released today found.
“Overwhelmingly — across party and regional lines — New Yorkers say the sponsors ought to voluntarily move the proposed mosque to another location,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.
The survey of 1,497 of New York residents found:
* 54 percent agree that “freedom of religion” gives Muslims the legal right to build the mosque on Park Place, while 40 percent disagreed and the rest were undecided.
* But 53 percent also said Muslim developers should not be allowed to build the mosque near the World Trade Center site in deference to sensitivities of 9/11 relatives, with 39 percent opposed and the rest undecided.

I know I am preaching to the choir but, for those who haven’t heard, the GZ mosque is a political statement, NOT a religious one!! In fact, this whole thing isn’t about religion at all, it’s about the muslims claiming victory over us!!

It is for New Yorkers to resolve, but my two cents is that we should let them build it and give them an opportunity to be covered in the news for any indiscretion with the same fervor they cover the priest (less than 1% of priests, by the way) scandal, the same way they cover The Westboro Baptist Church, David Koresh, and let's all wait to see how far they get with Bruce and Lance’ wedding reception or request for a wedding or the myriad of things that offend their faith in this wide-open country, and if someone should want to open a butcher shop offering something other than halal meats next door, it should be very simple to proffer the same standards when they shout their sensibilities are assaulted.
Nope, this is America my friends. So long as they aren't preaching sedition, mayhem or murder, they've got a right to preach it, and I have the right to ignore them should I find them offensive in return.

Your point is well taken and it depends upon the context. Take the prop 8 bill in Ca. The majority of voters decided that Gay Marriage would not be recognized. Now the upper courts have to decide to overthrow the will of the people or find that Gay marriage is protected in the US Constitution?

Is it you view that only the Federal Government must abide by the Bill of Rights, while state and local governments may violate your First, Second, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Fourteenth Amendment Rights?

I’d bet that 7 out of 10 New Yorkers think guns should be banned nationally too. I guess we all have to do whatever a majority of f***ing New Yorkers want.

There's plenty of places they can build - without that process including giving the finger to so many Americans who lost loved ones.

The Law? If the law was to adhered to, the property should have been seized by the city of New York, and Nasau county for the over $224,000 in property taxes unpaid.

Let's say a sex cult of pedophilia wants to operate as a religion. They want to build their church next to a school but the local community rejects. Does the First Amendment give them ironclad rights to build where ever they please over the objections of the people, by the people and for the people?
See, to me this is the Heart of the matter. The people who actually live there should have the say no matter what the rest of the country thinks. New Yorkers say no so it should be no. Case Closed!

Would you care to address the issue of Property Rights as outlined in the Constitution?
Sounds like you know more about it so go ahead and share it with the audience.
Rather than getting in a wad about First Amendment rights its more similar in fashion to an HOA rule. Lets say one lives in a neighborhood and wants to build a big shed in the backyard however their HOA forbids it in their rules. One can either accept it, try to change that law or move to another location where they can build that shed as they please. Now there is no National law that makes building sheds illegal but some local areas can restrict their use. I see the same parallels at work with the NYC GZ mosque.
