A growing number of Republicans are breaking with the party's traditional stance to publicly state their support for same-sex marriage, a shift strategists say stems as much from demographics as from the renewed focus on economics and the "tea party" movement.
A solid majority of adults younger than 30 - about six in 10 - support the right of gay and lesbian couples to legally wed, according to a Washington Post poll in February.
But even many older Americans and self-identified social conservatives have changed their view on an issue that just six years ago galvanized voters in support of President George W. Bush's reelection.
Gay Republican activists credit the shift to the heightened attention within the GOP base to jobs and the economy, and by a desire among strategists to expand the party's appeal.

An obvious ploy to try to keep the Christian Right from showing up at the polls to vote against Obama’s Socialism. Sorry, WaPo...NOTHING the Obama propaganda machine comes up with will keep us from showing up Nov. 2.

In the meantime, the ideology of 'everything belongs to woman's body as long as it attached to it' really doesn't fly in the face of ultrasound image. Most people will say that it's wrong to abort 9-month old baby. The ideology doesn't give allowance for 9-month old baby who is still inside the mother's womb.

Where does the Constitution give special rights based on aberrant behavior. Early in our history there were laws in every state against sodomy. Virginia's law had the death penalty. Do you really believe that the Founders thought it normal that a man looked at another man's hairy behind and "fell in love"?
You can already leave your property to anyone you wish. There are wills and power of attorney. To call that anything recognizes a relationship and that will end up being the camels nose in the tent.
The wish is the parent of the thought.
So, what does that have to do with marriage? Or are you swallowing the Koolaid too?
A major strategy of the homosexual anarchists is to demoralize by trying to convince the majority of people of the "inevitability" of same-sex "marriage", and worse. But if you look at how viciously they fight tooth and nail against any ballot initiative to codify a definition of marriage into law, you'll realize the truth of the matter. Their argument of public support for homosexual "marriage" completely falls apart.
Go take a hike, Dawn. You're not a conservative.
They think an army of straw men wins a war.
Obviously their scheme is to create dissension in the ranks of Republicans. Ken Mehlman or whatever his name is, is just a Democrat mole. The GOProud homosexual activists are mostly Dems, as were the Log Cabin “Repbublicans”. Try to steer the Repubs left into the homosexual agenda camp, and destroy it.

Hmmmm - the NYSlime yesterday, and now the Washington Compost (apologies to good honest compost and slime) want to do Republicans a favor and convince them the all the other Republicans have gone insane and support same sex marriage! This couldn't be a leftist strategy, could it? I mean, they couldn't possibly have communicated with the JournoList (urinalist?) people and decided the only way they can possible win in November is to split the Republican vote by driving conservatives out? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm???
The Log Cabin "Republicans" were merely militant leftist homosexual agitators, and seem to have reincarnated as the GOProud militant homosexual activist organization.
Other than those Rs with skeletons in their closets (I bet there's a bunch of 'em) and elitists who value cocktail parties and face time on TV and the adulation of the MSM more than conservative principles and the Constitution, Republicans are not "in favor" of homosexual marriage. Nope. Nosirree.
If people fall for this gambit, they are not looking closely. People need to grab the reins of the Repub party from the elitists.
What I think is the Constitution does say “We the people” have a right to form a contract.
I also believe Marriage is between one man and one woman and is a Sacrament before God.
They don’t need “special marriage” to use legal wills and power of attorney. Homosexuals already have the legal means to do as they will. They always have had. What they want is their aberrant behavior normalized and special rights. Giving special rights based on behavior is nowhere in the Constitution.
little jeremiah: “Republicans are not “in favor” of homosexual marriage. Nope. Nosirree.”
I’ll make a prediction right now that future party platforms will continue to have something like this (from the 2008 GOP platform):
“Preserving Traditional Marriage
Because our childrens future is best preserved within the traditional understanding of marriage, we call for a constitutional amendment that fully protects marriage as a union of a man and a woman, so that judges cannot make other arrangements equivalent to it. In the absence of a national amendment, we support the right of the people of the various states to affirm traditional marriage through state initiatives.
Republicans recognize the importance of having in the home a father and a mother who are married. The two-parent family still provides the best environment of stability, discipline, responsibility, and character. Children in homes without fathers are more likely to commit a crime, drop out of school, become violent, become teen parents, use illegal drugs, become mired in poverty, or have emotional or behavioral problems. We support the courageous efforts of single-parent families to provide a stable home for their children. Children are our nations most precious resource. We also salute and support the efforts of foster and adoptive families.
Republicans have been at the forefront of protecting traditional marriage laws, both in the states and in Congress. A Republican Congress enacted the Defense of Marriage Act, affirming the right of states not to recognize same-sex marriages licensed in other states. Unbelievably, the Democratic Party has now pledged to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, which would subject every state to the redefinition of marriage by a judge without ever allowing the people to vote on the matter. We also urge Congress to use its Article III, Section 2 power to prevent activist federal judges from imposing upon the rest of the nation the judicial activism in Massachusetts and California. We also encourage states to review their marriage and divorce laws in order to strengthen marriage.
As the family is our basic unit of society, we oppose initiatives to erode parental rights.”
Adults younger than 30 - about six in 10 - support the right of gay and lesbian couples.
1.Are six in ten gay?
2.Is dumbing down working
3.
The fact remains is that in every poll that I’ve seen, the majority of those under 30 support gay marriage*. In other words, no matter what we think, we will probably get it one way or another as the older generations pass on.
