Woman of the Year (Sarah Palin)
THE NEW YOUR SUN ^ | August 27, 2010 | Editorial of The New York Sun

Posted on 08/27/2010 11:49:37 AM PDT by onyx

It’s a classic movie plot. Think “Woman of the Year,” with Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. At first the man and the woman hate each other, then they fall into each other’s arms? Well, feature the fight that has erupted between the president of the AFL-CIO, Richard Trumka, and Governor Palin of Alaska.

The leader of Big Labor went to Anchorage to give a speech and attacked Mrs. Palin, accusing her of doing everything from writing notes on her hands to coming out with conspiracy theories about President Obama and his “death panels” to getting close to calling for violence. “Sometimes — about Sarah Palin — you’ve just got to laugh,” Mr. Trumka said. “ . . . But it’s not really funny.”

Mrs. Palin turned around and gave as good as she got, or better, in one of her patented Facebook postings, a demarche headlined “Union Brothers and Sisters, Join Our Commonsense Cause!” She wrote as a one-time card-carrying sister of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and United Steelworkers, cards she held by virtue of her husband’s membership in the two unions.

She asserted that it was “kind of ironic that a union boss has the gall to accuse anyone of threatening violence,” particularly in light of what she called the “violent attempts” by the Service Employees “to intimidate those who wanted to make their voices heard in last year’s town halls.”

She argued the real jobs problem was being caused by the policies of President Obama. Suddenly the Internet came alive like the silver screen, so much so that a columnist of the Washington Post, E.J. Dionne, issued a long complaint.

Seems that Mr. Trumka can’t get anyone to listen to, let alone write about, his usual speeches about what Mr. Dionne characterizes as “social CONTINUE

Yeah, it must have made him feel so clever.....lol.

Can't wait to see his response. And if he doesn't respond it means he's an incompetent drooler.

I WIN! I WIN!!!!!!!

This had to do with Retired Greyhound’s comment about some FReepers deifying Palin.

No. I don’t remember you making such a comparison.

That’s a great point. She’s doing her best and even the lame stream has charts on her picks. She’s got everyone’s interest and voter turnout is high on our side. Whether negative or positive, she has the media attention.

Admirably forthright. Thank you. ;)

What I don’t like is how people have built her up into a mythical figure who is not to be criticized. That is what the left did to Obama.

I think there is a difference, but I'm not going to try to change your opinion, which is fine.

I like her for what she stands for, but I don't think she is above critisism either. For example, I really don't like that she supported McRino. I understand why she did it, but I was critical of it. The big BIG difference between Palin supporters (most) and Obamabots, is that most Palin supporters have more than two brain cells connected together and could tell you specifically - based on policy and an understanding of the Constitution - why they like Palin. However, most Obama supporters have probably never seen the Constitution and based their support on very superficial things, like the fact that he was a "black guy who could be President." They were enamored with the idea of the first black president and the fact that he had no executive experience and hasn't run anything, didn't matter to them. Support for Palin is much more substance based IMHO.

Thanks, I rather liked the trick myself.

Ok, try and listen (read).

I never said “most” Sarah supporters deify her. I told pissant that I was concerned by the way many people deify her. I even prefaced the comment with my fondness of Sarah, which brought out the conspiracy theorists who think I must be some sort of troll, because as we all know, you can’t simultaneously “love” Sarah and disagree with her, right? (furthering my point)

If you can tell me that you have never seen comments here that are irrationally exuberant for Sarah Palin (sorry, I didn’t catch their screenames), then I don’t know what to tell you. You’re not paying attention.

Sarah is a bold defender of God and the Constitution (despite her McLame endorsement). But she is also a fallable human being. She is not our savior. Though she has many Reaganesque qualities, she is not even Reagan.

I’m not a list keeper. FR is a place where people of a particular bent can come together and exchange ideas. But it doesn’t have to be groupthink.

So, next time I will just send pissant a personal message so that I don’t get everyone all up in arms for nothing.

And like I said, if you are not one of Sarah’s deifiers, why are you worried about it anyway?

I agree. Palin fanatics are MUCH smarter than Obama fanatics.

Good point.

And I realize that to support Palin is to love God and America, whereas to support Obama is to hate God and hate America.

Michelle is okay too. I thought you decided to pack it in and move on down the highway since your PDS couldn’t gain any traction. Was your swan song to Mr. Robinson phoney baloney like all of your posts?

Piss Aunt seems to be an operative to destroy Duncan Hunter and any chance he has as being seen as a good, conservative politician.

What with just his name here (pissant, a stinky little insect) plus his abject horror at the fact that Sarah Palin even exists, and his hundreds of nasty hateful childish posts, Hunter would be wize to dissassoiate himself from this obvious plant who, if a conservative, makes them look like idiots.

The implication to pissant, who also repeats that claim ad nauseum is why people reacted to your claim. I know of one poster who consistently goes over the top with close to an adoration attitude, yet pissant and others (and yes you did that in the one post) continue to slime ALL her supporters with that label.

You ought to be able to see how that might offend a lot of us who, in your words are, people of a particular bent can come together and exchange ideas

I can't imagine why others would be offended by being told they "worship" her can you?

You’re missing the point. EveningStar proudly posts his list which he’s kept and updated for months now. He’s another one who refers to her as “Saint Sarah,” so you see, his list is really a form of trolling. He used to play to BobJ but he now resides in the land of ZOT.

“This is an ongoing list of historical and Biblical figures that Sarah Palin has been compared to on FR:”

Star light, star bright, your star is fading fast tonite. Perhaps we need to post a list of PDSers here on FR. Should we add your name to pissant, doughtyone, rabscuttle, stephenjohnwhatever, anniewhatever, and the other mindless drones?

BTW, was that an Obama ‘12 sticker I saw on your Yugo?

No. Just interjecting some observations into the thread.

There are still plenty of people here who are not aware of the Palin comparisons made by some folks on this board.
