"EPA Now Accepting Public Comment on Petition to Ban Lead in Ammunition and Fishing Tackle" Thursday, August 26, 2010 By Susan Jones, Senior Editor
SNIPPET: "(CNSNews.com) Environmental activists are pressing the Obama administration to ban the manufacture, processing and distribution lead shot, bullets, and fishing sinkers under the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976, but hunting and Second Amendment groups say the EPA lacks the authority to do so, for starters."
SNIPPET: "The public comment period opened on Aug. 25 and ends on October 31. The EPA must decide whether to accept or reject the petition by November 1, 2010, the day before the midterm election."

Given that the EPA is a political organization and not a scientific one, this will be a hard decision.

I don’t remember ever taking any sort of an oath of allegiance to the EPA either in school or anywhere else in life. This will kill the 2’nd amendment and start a second civil war.
We need the second amendment more than we need the EPA
What are the possible substitutes? Stainless steel, aluminum, copper, silver, gold, platinum?
I think I’ll vote with the TEA party on this one too, if Democrats and bureaucrats will still allow that...
Agreed and the war on lead is mythological. The metallic form has a low bio-availability and low toxicity. Water services serving millions of Americans are lead.
The attack on lead is bad science and now it is anti-American.
Set aside enough money for bail, just in case.
“What are the possible substitutes? Stainless steel, aluminum, copper, silver, gold, platinum?”
Somehow, “I’ll pump ya full of steel (or aluminum, copper, silver, gold, platinum)” doesn’t have the same ring to it.
Silver makes a lousy bullet. I would think aluminum with a steel core would work. And I have a short (Two word) comment for the EPA.
Bullets can be made from copper but there’s almost no reasonable substitute for lead shot, anything else close to being as dense is expensive. That is, bullets for center-fire weapons can be made from copper, but a 22 might not really have the power to move copper bullets across rifling and most rimfire weapons could not easily be cleaned for copper fouling. Such a law might spell the end of the 22 and other new rimfire calibers.
That is, you’re probably talking about getting rid of shotguns and 22s.
Well then wendy1946,
Ya’d best get armed and prepared

If the Lefty looney PC crowd have their way.....cottonballs!
How about we ban liberals and eco terrorists. We could use up all stocks of banned lead to eradicate them.
these bastards are completely out of control and need to be shut down.
No problem. People can simply use depleted uranium instead.
