Glenn Beck Rewrites Civil Rights History [Alveda King: Park Police Forewarned, We Just Might Sing]
CNN>COM ^ | August 26, 2010 9:02 a.m. EDT | Willie Bunch, Special to CNN

Posted on 08/26/2010 3:32:54 PM PDT by fight_truth_decay

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- "We are on the right side of history! We are on the side of individual freedoms and liberties and, dammit, we will reclaim the civil rights moment. We will take that movement -- because we were the people who did it in the first place." -- Glenn Beck, on his nationally syndicated radio program, May 26.

It is Glenn Beck's most audacious stunt yet: This Saturday, in the company of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the National Rifle Association and others, the Fox News Channel host will stand in the sacred shadow not just of the Lincoln Memorial, but of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. himself, near the spot where King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech 47 years earlier to the exact day.

During this event -- billed as "Restoring Honor" -- Beck will aim to "reclaim the civil rights moment" for his cause, and in the process he will continue what he's been doing for the last 18 months: bending the history of 20th-century America like a Philadelphia soft pretzel.

The revisionist message behind "Restoring Honor" is nothing new for the conservative shock jock. In the year and half since President Obama took office, Beck has led his loyal followers on a journey not just to "reclaim" civil rights but much more audaciously to rewrite the sweeping narrative arc of American history from the time of the Founding Fathers forward.

Methinks thou protesteth much.
I'm not protesting at all. I voiced an opinion, you disagreed with it, and instead of just disagreeing with it you try to shoe-horn an irrelevant Shakespeare quote into the discussion where it doesn't belong.

Methinks though overthinkest too much and overshoot the point you're trying to make by a country mile.

Now, when you want to have an actual discussion about Beck and what he says and what he broadcasts on his show, then let's have that discussion, sans Shakespeare, sans namecalling, sans hype, and sans irrelevant anti-Mormon rants.

Ok?

(And I'm not a Mormon.)

I didn’t attack anyone.

But I’m keeping on topic.

Now I’m going back to making stuffed peppers.

In this case, Beck is preaching spiritual and religious renewal while promoting and teaching our Founding documents. If you’re completely blinded by his religious affiliation, you’re totally missing the point of his mission: to teach America’s greatness through spirituality! [Rarestia, post #73]

If you want to see what Beck was preaching last week on TV, go to the link below...far more than what you've said...and if he's that off-base about world history (see link below), how can he boast of himself as credible on other historical issues?

The man openly professes his belief in Jesus Christ to an audience of millions...< [#49]

Yeah, well, according to this link, Ed Brayton mentioned in a scienceblogs.com article that "last week he [Beck] actually started making some of the utterly loopy claims from fake Mormon history about how Jesus came to the Americas and lived among the Native Americans on his show." Source: Beck Starts Preaching Mormonism on TV Show

So "your" Jesus Christ has verified that the Book of Mormon is true, eh, Rarestia? And that the Mormon jesus came to the Americas, and then upon being crucified,

The Biblical Jesus came to be our righteousness (1 Cor. 1:30); the Book of Mormon jesus came to search for mere human-produced righteousness (3 Nephi 9:11)
The Biblical Jesus came to see that they would have life (John 10:10); the Book of Mormon jesus came to bring down destruction (3 Nephi 9:12) and ensure that people would "howl" in that destruction (3 Nephi 8:23)
The Biblical Jesus came to ensure people would have abundant life (John 10:10); the Book of Mormon jesus came to ensure people would be in "continual...mourning" (3 Nephi 8:23)
The Biblical Jesus came to be the Light of the world (John 1:9; 8:12; 9:5); the Book of Mormon jesus came to yield complete darkness for three days (3 Nephi 8:23)

One key difference of the Mormon “restored gospel” is presenting a violent Mormon jesus: When the Mormon jesus dies, he unleashes punishment and levels 16 cities, killing 70,000-->90,000 people (see 3 Nephi 8 and 3 Nephi 9). Nothing of the kind is stated in the Bible.

Yes, there was judgment on the cross!
Yes, it was terrible!
But the real Jesus absorbed all of that judgment and terror -- our very sins -- there on the cross!

In the true gospel Jesus is entombed.
In the Mormon “restored gospel", the mass of people in Moronihah is the emphasis of entombment, having been covered with an entire mountain by the Mormon jesus! (3 Nephi 8:10)
On Easter week! The other cities were all either sunk by the Mormon jesus, or horrifically burned to death, plus for added emphasis, ”many great destructions have I caused to come upon this land...” (3 Nephi 9:12)

So Rarestia, your "jesus" came to earth to ensure that 70,000 to 90,000 people were buried alive, burned to death, or drown?

I was told by a woman a while back if I wanted to be cremated; I would lose my soul and not be able to connect to my body and not be able to return because I have no body whatever that means.

People need to quit attacking Beck because he is a Mormon, and start focusing on his message...after all; Catholic Nancy Pelosi, Mormon Harry Reid, and Muslim-sympathizer Barack Obama work together very effectively...

Click on post #163...click on link to Brayton's scienceblogs...re: Beck reference about Jesus having appeared in the Americas and having disciples there. You believe that? You think that forwards the "conservative agenda?" Really?

Earlier (post #75), you said: We've got to win the war, people. Can you imagine, on Wake Island for example, marines going up to their commanding officer and saying, "we can't have Johnny fighting beside us. He's a Mormon, you know. You do know that they have a conceptually inaccurate picture of Jesus Christ, don't you?"

So, apparently you want Beck to come on his show, claim that the Mormon jesus appeared in the Americas, and then he's supposed to be the "teflon man" from receiving any crits about that, eh? What are you -- his "jesus in the Americas" advocate?

This anti-Mormon ranting and raving is so boring and so, so incredibly pointless. I was told over on the religious threads to mind my own business and STFU and avoid the religious threads if I didn’t like it but I KNEW it was going to rear it’s ugly, stupid and boring head in more general discussions and now here it is.

Let’s all lay down and let Obama Pelosi Reid rule America because there’s no freaking way we’re actually going to get together and work with Mormons! Oh no! Heaven forbid! Can’t have that!

And we’d be honoring a great tradition because I know that the marines at Wake Island (for example) were very careful to scrutinize each and every one of their comrades to make sure that each one was DOCTRINALLY CORRECT on their understanding of Jesus Christ and that if the guy next to them lacked a full and complete 100% doctrinally correct concept of Christ there’s no WAY we want that SOB fighting on our side. NO FREAKING WAY!

Yup, that’s the way it was on Wake Island in WWII and that’s the way it should be here, too.

Though you pretend to have many perspectives for your posts, the overwhelming impression one gets reading your screeds is that you are a one-trick pony, slam those opposed to Mormonism using any deceitful means at your disposal. How sad, you’ve marginalized yourself in your fanatical effort to slam others.

I didn’t attack anyone. But I’m keeping on topic.

So, when you said what you said in post #85, calling posters "hijackers, religious zealots, run-amokers, sources of 'ad nauseum'" these were meant to be "compliments"?

These were your words, weren't they?

But here I am, reading the same stuff that gets posted, ad nauseum, on practically every thread related to Beck. It makes me sad, and it makes me sick, to see what FreeRepublic has turned into. This thread is officially hijacked, as so many have been allowed to be. With the willing oversight of the Mods. Sad to see FreeRepublic religious zealots allowed to run amok over any thread they want.

I have been surprised by the number of self-proclaimed conservatives (fake in my opinion) who keep attacking here everyone who is a Mormon. One poster (I forgot who) only posted rants that were anti-Mormon. Just another way to damage some of the right leaning politicians.

NO FREAKING WAY!

Sorry, but if we were to take your advice given in your illustrations, then you cannot limit how it's applied; it also carries much further than that. Here, I'll show you, using your own language -- in italics... (with a few changes/insertions that I'll bold face):

We've got to win the war, people. Can you imagine, on Wake Island for example, marines going up to their commanding officer and saying, "we can't have Johnny fighting beside us. He's Democrat, you know. You do know that they have a conceptually inaccurate picture of policy, how to run a government, America and who knows what, don't you?"

And then, upon objecting to this portrayal you've given us, sam, we'd then hear back from you the following, eh?

And we’d be honoring a great tradition because I know that the marines at Wake Island (for example) were very careful to scrutinize each and every one of their comrades to make sure that each one was POLITICALLY CORRECT on their understanding of policy, government practices and polity, America, and who knows what and that if the guy next to them lacked a full and complete 100% politically correct concept of policy, government practices, America and who knows what there’s no WAY we want that SOB fighting on our side. NO FREAKING WAY!

Now is my point to say that Democrats didn't fight alongside Republicans on Wake Island? No! Obviously they did, and very successfully, and with great unity and sacrifice!

But that's not the way you're using your illustration. You're using your illustration to fend off all critiques of Beck. Therefore, if you can use your Wake Island illustration to do that, then somebody can come along and use the exact same illustration to try to silence your critiques against Democrats, the Obama administration, etc.

I’m really getting uber sick of it and I’m no Mormon. I believe and understand that Mormonism is off-the-rails in many regards. It reminds me a lot of the Church of Scientology and L Ron Hubbard is, in fact (to my mind) a sort of Latter Day Joseph Smith.

And I’ve posted passages from Mark Twain on the subject of Mormonism and NOBODY (certainly none of the dullards here in FR who make a career of ranting against Mormonism) can come anywhere CLOSE to Twain on the subject.

So I know, probably better than the dullards themselves know, how silly Mormonism is.

But so freaking what? Allies are allies and Mormons are our allies in the struggle to defend America from Communists and Islamists.

Y’all who are so worried about the jots and tittles of 100% correct conceptual understanding of Jesus Christ, wait until you’re living under SHARIA and see what that understanding will get you. A good stoning, that’s what.

Mormons are allies against Sharia and Stalinism. Beck is an ally against Sharia and Stalinism.

And as far as making fun of religions go, the master himself, Mark Twain, didn’t stop at the Mormons, you know.

The difference, you dullard, you dunderhead, is that in this war the democrats ARE the freaking enemy!

It would be like saying on Wake Island, can’t have this guy fight beside me because he’s a member of the Japanese army!!!!

You goofball!!!!

LOL!!!!

I have focused on Beck's TV message...brand spankin new, too [what Beck said on TV last week] ... see post #163 for link.

So, you, too think Beck should be Mr. Teflon Broadcaster, and when Beck says on TV that the Mormon jesus came to the Americas and then when he died, ensured that 70,000 to 90,000 people in 16 cities were wiped out...buried alive...burned to death...drowned...that we're not supposed to be able to comment on that?

What kind of a "conservative" are you that attempts to squelch free speech and free expression on a "free republic" site?

No one's trying to take away your free speech.

First of all, it's a private website and only one person has the right and power to stop ANY of us from talking.

But I'm just expressing myself and how I feel about you and the other anti-Mormon professionals who spend all your time and all your thinking on one and only one subject. It's so boring. It's so irrelevant. It's such a waste of everyone's time.

But by all means, continue!
