Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- "We are on the right side of history! We are on the side of individual freedoms and liberties and, dammit, we will reclaim the civil rights moment. We will take that movement -- because we were the people who did it in the first place." -- Glenn Beck, on his nationally syndicated radio program, May 26.
It is Glenn Beck's most audacious stunt yet: This Saturday, in the company of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the National Rifle Association and others, the Fox News Channel host will stand in the sacred shadow not just of the Lincoln Memorial, but of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. himself, near the spot where King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech 47 years earlier to the exact day.
During this event -- billed as "Restoring Honor" -- Beck will aim to "reclaim the civil rights moment" for his cause, and in the process he will continue what he's been doing for the last 18 months: bending the history of 20th-century America like a Philadelphia soft pretzel.
The revisionist message behind "Restoring Honor" is nothing new for the conservative shock jock. In the year and half since President Obama took office, Beck has led his loyal followers on a journey not just to "reclaim" civil rights but much more audaciously to rewrite the sweeping narrative arc of American history from the time of the Founding Fathers forward.

Dr. Alveda King the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929-April 4, 1968) explains why she's speaking at the Glenn Beck 8/28 rally
[which Willie Bunch calls the rally: "Beck's most audacious stunt yet"] set on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial this Saturday
Dr. Alveda King: "Americans are hungry to reclaim the symbols of our liberty, hard won by an unlikely group of outnumbered, outgunned, underfunded patriots determined not to live in servitude to the British Empire. If we want to sing the national anthem at a memorial to the man who led this fledgling nation out of slavery, and made my people free, we should be able to send our voices soaring to the heavens."
Becks Rally to Restore Honor will give us that chance, and thats why I feel its important for me to be there."
On July 4th, Atlanta, at the gravesite of the black civil-rights activist, MLK; Dr. King said she and a group of more than 100-30 pro-life black pastors and a busload of supporters strong, came to declare that abortion is the greatest violation of civil rights in our day. Dr. King said she brought a wreath to lay at Uncle Martins grave [Martin Luther King Center for Nonviolent Social Change] and to pray, but the King Center Staff had barricaded the entrance to the federal park surrounding the gravesite.
"We werent allowed", Dr. King said.
King's cousin Martin Luther King III, the president of the center, had given her permission orally to stop at the gravesite for a prayer during her visit, but when the centers CEO received requests from Altanta pro-choice groups to hold protests on the site, he decided no one would be allowed at the grave and erected a temporary barrier metal fence around it.
Dr. King responded by climbing into a reflecting pool beside the grave and declared: Okay, lock me up, but explain to my uncle why you locked me up; explain to my father why you locked me up explain to Jesus why you locked me up.
Park Police told the gatherers singing was not allowed at the memorial-- in this case The Star-Spangled Banner
" The National Park Service stated the gathering also constituted a demonstration. One park ranger even joked about getting their clubs out. "It was a joke, but still, how nonviolent was that? Alveda King said. She did slip between the barriers and said her prayer, then she joined the pro-lifers still assembled on the sidewalk.
The LA Times just posted comments: "I hope he (Beck) says Obama hates white people again. That would make it truly hilarious and ironic," wrote dmblum1799.
Ucvbn Bjfyuvs says, "Glenn Beck's dream is a fascist (corporatist) dictatorship."
LA Times reader Michelle T commented, "Just another demonstration that Glenn Beck and his viewers are racist. How stupid does he think people are claiming that the rally being on the I Have a Dream Speech anniversary is coincidental? Claiming that it's divine intervention demonstrates he is far from being a true Christian. Christ would have had nothing to do with a hate monger like him."

near the spot where King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech 47 years earlier to the exact dayTo the exact day! Wow! Unbelievable! How dare he!
And as Coulter (I think) said: the 47th anniversary!
And everybody knows the 47th is the big one.
These libtards are such looneytoons they don't even hear themselves anymore.
The chicken CNN reporter never once mentions that Alveda King will be a speaker that day.
“Christ would have had nothing to do with a hate monger like him.”
Sounds like she really hates him ...
That’s not a news report, no matter what CNN calls it. It is an editorial.
WTF is a Conservative Shock Jock? Those two terms are like oil and water.
Beck is a principled Christian man. I believe what he is doing is the Christian way of herding the sheep, and I’m very much in favor of his message. We’ve lost our way as a country, and reverence for a Creator with a grander plan than our own is lost in politics from DC to your local school board.
These pukes posting comments have zero clue what it’s like to live under a fascist dictatorship.
bump for later
I saw her on Beck today, that woman just radiates love. Her father and uncle must be up in heaven just smiling at what a wonderful, courageous woman she is.
It’s clearly labeled an editorial, and he isn’t a CNN reporter, he’s a blogger for the LA Times.
Well said, my wife and I love her, she is a great woman.
While I don’t want to abandon Beck yet, the company he keeps namely folks like the corrupt collaborator NRA is raising red flags.
Something smells.
“...stand in the sacred shadow not just of the Lincoln Memorial, but of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. himself.”
Holy cow. Speaking of audacity .. NOT JUST Lincoln, but MLK himself! So, who has the twisted sense of history?
;)
Seething, hatred spewed from the Left clearly frustrated and running out of ways to prop up their beloved, still vacationing Obama. But they call Beck a hate monger. Blind hate.
“I saw her on Beck today, that woman just radiates love. Her father and uncle must be up in heaven just smiling at what a wonderful, courageous woman she is.”
My husband and I saw her as well. What a warm spirit she possesses. I feel honored that she’s speaking on Saturday. Dear Lord, some of those libs are so hateful.
What he twists and thereby hides is that yes, indeed, the civil rights movement was diverted into a march toward socialism and away from the Founding Fathers.
Glenn Beck, RE-WRITING history???
Is he kidding?? He OBVIOUSLY doesn’t watch Glenn EVER. One CANNOT re-write history using original documents and the founders OWN words -IN complete context!!
baboon.
While watching Ms. King I kept contrasting her with Shirley Sherrod. What a difference in forgiveness.
Presuming to speak for Christ is an uncertain enterprise. I would be hard put to imagine a person that Jesus would refuse to speak with, which is not the same as approving said person’s behavior.
You have to understand — the left has been pushing their Marxist based revision of American history for 50 years. So, to the lefties, when someone digs up the facts, he or she is “re-writing” history.
