‘Burn the Quran Day’ Plan Prompts Warnings of Anger, Unrest Wednesday, August 25, 2010 By Patrick Goodenough, International Editor
SNIPPET: "(CNSNews.com) – The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has joined the growing condemnation of plans by a Florida church to burn copies of the Quran on the 9th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.
A spokesman for the Jeddah-based bloc of Islamic states expressed concern Tuesday that the planned action by the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville would stir up “anger across the Muslim world and provoke unrest.”
The OIC said it hoped the U.S. government would “take appropriate steps to protect the sacred religious sentiments of Muslims of America and of the Muslims across the world.”"

Jones is the author of a controversial book entitled “Islam Is of the Devil,” and the church’s Web site lists ten reasons why it thinks the Quran should be burned."

The Cuna Indians who live in San Blas (Rep of Panama) use newspaper which they prefer when they are here in the city. (I have no idea what is used, if anything, on their islands and don’t want to know or ask.)…..Anyway, maybe we can send planeloads of the NYT, LA Times and other left newspapers to facilitate their rear end wiping and bring them into the 21st century.

If the church wants to burn Korans...they do have a right to do so. Just as much as Muslims have the right to burn the Bible.
Just as much as their precious Victory Mosque can be built at the sight of their greatest conquest.

True, they have a right to free speech............they also have a right to be stupid which right they are indulging to the max and to the peril of our troops and our national interest.

Afghanistan: Gen. Petraeus warned Tuesday that a U.S. church’s plan to burn the Quran on the anniversary of 9/11 would imperil U.S. troops abroad. If we’re serious about winning the war, his warning should be heeded.
Not many people have jobs as hard as David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan. The wavering support of his commander in chief and the politically motivated deadlines he has to live with are bad enough.
Then there’s the constant withdrawal of troops by our fair-weather friends in NATO, the deadly drip of U.S. secrets from the WikiLeaks Internet organization, the corruption of Afghan public officials and warlords, and the steady drumbeat of the anti-war, “General Betray-us” left.
All that on top of the actual war against the Taliban.
That’s why the Quran-burning stunt announced by Florida-based Dove World Outreach Center is the last thing Petraeus and his forces needs.
“It is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems,” the general said. “Not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged in the Islamic community. It could endanger troops, and it could endanger the overall effort.”
In case the church has forgotten, the U.S. strategy to win in Afghanistan is based on winning support from at least some Afghans, pretty much all of whom are Muslims.

There is a fundamental misunderstanding in American and Western society about the nature of our current conflict that is at the heart of this debate. We are not just fighting the Taliban or Al Qaeda.
We are in a “total war”. Huh? A total war is a war between societies/cultures rather than a war between politically driven armies. While our attention is drawn to the Iraq and Afghan battlefields we forget the larger world war of Islam versus the planet Earth.
The goal of all wars is to get your enemy to stop fighting.
All war strategy has to be built around that goal. As such, burning the Koran and other stunts make the enemy fight harder and are counterproductive, requiring more blood and treasure for us to win.
We have to fight smarter, all of us, particularly non-uniformed partisans opposed to radical Islam......us civilians.
When we, by thinking clearly here: diminish the conversion of moderate Moslems into jihadists, cut off jihadist money and movement, degrade jihadist leadership, and degrade jihadists on the declared battlefields, and eliminate jihadist safe havens....we will win and make the Earth safe from jihadist irregulars.
The opposition to the NY mosque is a classic case of the enemy dislocating us strategically. We should require a mosque to be built there. Rub the enemies nose into what Islam caused, shame Islam and Moslem moderates will more likely avoid jihadism.
Of one thing I am sure. None of us, Terry Jones, etc. has the beginning of the responsibility or understanding of the Afghan battlefield, that Gen. Petraeus has. No chance I will ever criticize a soldier in the field on strategic points. I have critiqued tactics and the politics driving our strategic choices.
It’s easy to call them from the bench folks, quite another when your command is sending body bags home.
Gen. Petraeus is our leader of our strategy against jihadists. If he says “don’t”, OK, then don’t.
We all need to think more globally.

Book burning is antithetical to American ideals. People have a constitutional right to burn a Koran if they want to, but doing so is insensitive and an unnecessary provocation – much like building a mosque at Ground Zero.
I would hope that Pastor Terry Jones and his supporters will consider the ramifications of their planned book-burning event. It will feed the fire of caustic rhetoric and appear as nothing more than mean-spirited religious intolerance. Don’t feed that fire. If your ultimate point is to prove that the Christian teachings of mercy, justice, freedom, and equality provide the foundation on which our country stands, then your tactic to prove this point is totally counter-productive.
Our nation was founded in part by those fleeing religious persecution. Freedom of religion is integral to our charters of liberty. We don’t need to agree with each other on theological matters, but tolerating each other without unnecessarily provoking strife is how we ensure a civil society. In this as in all things, we should remember the Golden Rule. Isn’t that what the Ground Zero mosque debate has been about?
