On the surface, St. Vincent's Cathedral School of Bedford seemed like a perfect fit for Tracy and Jill Harrison's 4-year-old daughter.
It was a good school that would provide much more than your average day care center, Jill Harrison said. It was close to their home, and the hours matched the family's busy schedule.
The couple also thought that, as nondenominational Christians, their values would align with those taught at the school.
But there turned out to be a wide disparity in beliefs.
Less than one week before young Olivia's first day and days after her teacher called to welcome her the Harrisons learned that their lifestyle as a married lesbian couple made them a bad fit for St. Vincent's. Olivia was no longer welcome.

The school's dean, Ryan Reed, said in an e-mail ... that the school was not "a good fit for her child."
"A big part of that reason is that we would be teaching values and morals contrary to what the child would be learning at home, and this would both undercut her mother's authority and create confusion for the child," Reed said.
Jill Harrison said that from her understanding of the curriculum, Olivia would have spent 20 minutes a day in chapel learning basic Christian principles.
"Should I have maybe done a little bit more research? I guess, but they use both the Episcopal and Anglican name. It's a school; she's 4 ½ . What else are you going to teach her beyond follow the Ten Commandments and don't lie and steal?" she said.

Good.
I send my kids to private Christian school to keep them away from this type of stuff.
Jesus refuses to sit with sinners!! Such is the way with modern Christianity> showing Love is a difficult thing. condemnation you can find in the most ruthless of religions.
Maybe the lesbian women should be stoned but who is going to throw the first one?
If the Christian school taught anything contrary to mom’s lifestyle, such as the belief that marriage is between one man and one woman, they would be sued to kingdom come.
Jesus sat with sinners and then told them to go and sin no more.
If I have the option to keep my children sheltered from the gay agenda as long as I can, that’s my option as a parent. The Bible also says to “train up your children in the way they should go” and to “point out evil, rebuke it, and have nothing to do with it.” How do I explain “two mommies” to my 7 and 9 year old? How to I say “NO WAY” when my daughter wants to attend a sleepover at her friends house (with the two mommies)?
The problem most likely originated because the school was still “Episcopalian.” Most homosexuals are drawn to that church when they want a little tradition in their lives since the Episcopal “Church” is so gay friendly. Of course, they probably had no idea about the Anglican Church in North America which is strictly orthodox in foundational beliefs and has broken away from the Episcopal Church in the USA. The school not only has every right to deny admission but had a duty to do so. Although it is sad to have to reject a child, it is far more tragic that this little girl is being raised by women whose anti Christian lifestyle will be a harmful influence.
Are you speaking as a Christian or is that a secular rant? If you’re a Christian, please show me where unrepentant and active lesbianism is compatible with Christ’s teachings (or where Christ told believers to let unrepentant sinners become members of his Church). If you’re speaking from a secular perspective, thanks for the advice but I prefer to look to actual Christians and the Bible for information concerning the faith.
Christ also told the woman caught in the act of adultery, “Go and SIN NO MORE.” (Emphasis mine) Since homosexuality by its very act a sin (read Romans 1) the charge that they are ‘unrepentant’ is correct.
I’m going on the assumption that they weren’t members of the church to begin with? Or if they were, then that’s been taken care of as well?
The most importantant thing one can teach a child is to love other people not to condemn them! What lesson are the children going to learn from this? What happens if your child comes to you someday and says mom I’m gay?? will you reject them? Didn’t Jesus say “I have come into the world not to condem it but to save it.”
Drawing others to Faith in Christ involves showing love, acceptance, God’s word and the path to salvation. If you think you can shield your children from the things of this world you’re fooling yourself. I ask what are the tests one needs to pass to be accepted into this “private” School!? Are sinners allowed?
Aren’t there gay schools where they can send their children? Then they can be with “families” who believe the same things they do. Why do they have to send them to a Christian school where they know that the children will be taught the truth about their perversion? They may have a right to an education but they don’t have a right to a Christian education. And for the record, Jesus sat with repentant sinners, not with sinners who continued in unrepentant in their sin.
That argument has been raised already.
They aren’t going to follow the church so why should they be allowed to flout its laws.
And yes, children should be shielded from behavior that is antithetical to God’s commandments. Sodomy is sin and the joining of two women is shacking up, not marriage.
Then I guess you would have no problem with an unrepentant child molester as a school teacher and an adulterer as a pastor/priest, a thief as your accountant, or a murderer for your neighbor.
Have at it. I chose otherwise.
It is a private school and the school has very valid reasons for not wanting to bring these children into their environment. End of story. If the government, lawyers, activists, etc. step in and force the school to take them, well, that pretty well ends the notion of “private” anything, independence, freedom, and liberty. Basically, the end of America when mob-rule can force an issue.
Christ did not accept sin. He tried to get people to separate themselves from it. That is not the same as saying that you hate a person because of their sin (a very Leftist charge). What part of this is confusing?
Again, I ask you, is this your personal, secular opinion, or are you trying to tell Christians what to do?
“What lesson are the children going to learn from this?”
Probably nothing at their age. However, the Christians were actually more concerned about the children than the so-called “moms” in that the Christians didn’t want to create a conflict in the lesbian “family.”
“What happens if your child comes to you someday and says mom Im gay??”
I would let them know I love them but it’s sinful and they should repent (sort of the same thing I tell my children when they make other poor choices, aka sins).
“Are sinners allowed?”
Since we are ALL sinners, the answer is obviously, “Yes!” The point is, Christians are sinners who have accepted responsibility for their sins, repented of them, and are trying to do better for Christ. These lesbians are either unaware of their sin or aware of it an unrepentant. How in the world can they ever be saved if people tell them it’s OK to sin????
Define, nondeminational Christian? Bet it has a big helping of New Age nothingness to it. There are plenty of other atheistic schools they can go to where they will be sainted, so leave the Catholics alone.
Pray for America
And for the record, Jesus sat with repentant sinners.<<<<
Please show this to me. Do you think if that little girl was allowed to attend the school , she may have come into contact with God’s word and loving Christians and perhaps find salvation of her own?
Takes evangelism to a new level
