Excusing Islam for the Fort Hood Massacre

On 5 November 2009, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, a US Army Psychiatrist and devout Muslim, opened fire on his fellow soldiers at Fort Hood, TX, killing thirteen and wounding 32. As he fired, he shouted "Allahu Akbar," which means "God is Great," an Islamic declaration of faith.

On 10 August 2010, the Department of Defense (DoD) released 23-pages of recommendations from an independent review of the Fort Hood massacre. It is not as pure a whitewash as the first Fort Hood report, called "Protecting the Force". It actually has some relevant recommendations. However, it so assiduously avoids the central issue that it becomes a masterpiece of political correctness.

There is not a single mention of Islam, Islamic Radicalization, Jihad, Jihadists, Religious Extremism in the entire document. Nor is there any other word or phrase that would indicate to the reader that Hasan was anything other than a mentally disturbed murderer. The writers describe "self radicalization" and "religious practices" in the vaguest way under recommendation 2.7:

"The independent Review found that DoD policy regarding religious accommodation lacks the clarity necessary to help commanders distinguish appropriate religious practices from those that might indicate a potential for violence and self radicalization."

So Hasan was "self-radicalized." Certainly murdering your fellow soldiers could be considered an inappropriate "religious practice".

This is a form of surrender and cowardice in the face of the enemy. When you cannot even name your enemy you can quit making a big deal about getting inside the enemy OOD loop because they've already destroyed part of yours.

Not surprising the only conclusion they came to was to indicate that Hasan was anything other than a “mentally disturbed murderer”. Which is giving the guy an out in any trial because you said he has mental disorder.

Maybe we should start a trend when we’re discussing Islam, Islamic Radicalization, Jihad, Jihadists, Religious Extremism we also throw in “mentally disturbed murderers” to see what else they can come up with.

Non-surprising in the least. Military leadership is under huge pressure to be ultra-politically correct at all times...particularly under liberal political administrations. Then they push that agenda downward through the ranks...training the next generation that political correctness is the way to achieve success (barf).

An Iraqi doctor encouraged security officers at Brooke Army Medical Center to shoot him earlier this month after telling others that he planned to free accused Fort Hood shooter Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a federal agent testified Monday. FBI counterterrorism and military intelligence operatives took a hard look at Senan Kahtan Abrahem after he went to Fort Sam Houston on Jan. 6 and approached an information booth at BAMC about seeing Hasan, according to testimony at a bail hearing Monday for Abrahem.
Abrahem, an immigrant living in San Antonio, was indicted last week on a federal charge of making a false statement — he allegedly claimed he was Hasan’s lawyer so he could get access to Hasan.
U.S. Magistrate Judge John Primomo released Abrahem on unsecured bond after hearing that Abrahem, who is bipolar, has resumed taking medication, does not appear to be a flight risk and did not harm anyone.
Hasan’s lawyer, John Galligan, said Abrahem has no connection to Hasan, who faces his own mental-competence review next month that Galligan has now asked the Army to postpone. Galligan said the military is rushing the so-called sanity board review before the defense has all the necessary paperwork and discovery to prepare for it.
U.S. Army counterintelligence agent Jeffrey Cram testified Monday about an errant pattern of activity by Abrahem that eventually had him under the watch of a counterterrorism and counterintelligence officials. First, Abrahem left his car keys — but not his car — at a local mosque as a donation and claimed that he was going to free Hasan.

Ohaha was the consummate con man candidate----what he left off his resume is astounding. Even more horrific for America---Ohaha is surrounded by ruthless, calculating individuals (the ones really in charge).

Clearly, when he gave his build-the-mosque speech (from the WH) Ohaha's articulated words and his voice inflections, were archly crafted. Ohaha knew full well that he was throwing a megaton bomb into the American culture......and he was not in the least concerned.

No, he hasn't been tried yet because his defense counsel, Mr. Galligan, keeps requesting continuances and, unless the Army wants any conviction/sentence overturned on appeal, these continuance requests will be allowed to continue for some time.

Basically, the Manual for Courts-Martial almost requires that the Convening Authority and the military judge to grant continuances requested by the defense for which the defense counsel claims that the defense of the accused in a court-martial would be jeopardized without the continuance.

I'll grant you that I haven't seen many courts-martial that have the potential for delays as this one does, but, a lot of times, even the most basic court-martial can be delayed for months due to sanity board requests, witness and evidence examination difficulties or discovery, and other such matters. We often have courts-martial where the charges are months old before we get to trial.

That being said, Mr. Galligan is one of the most anti-military, ambulance-chasing, camera-hogging ex-military lawyers in the Central Texas area and is probably trying to extend the duration of this court for three major reasons: one, to screw with the military; two, to get as much money as he can get from the accused and his family/supporters before the money well dries up; and, three, to get as much publicity for J.P. Galligan as the market will bear.

An excellent summary of the reasons for delaying trial by court-martial of Nidal Malik Hasan (I refuse to refer to him by rank. He is a Muslim first and everything else second).

Galligan is a renegade from the Army JAG Corps. If I were Fort Hood post commander I would allow him onto the reservation only under armed guard everywhere he went, including the latrine.

I doubt if they are going to build a single-purpose mosque here on post. They're in the process of constructing a large centralized "religious center" on a couple (three?) acres here pretty much in the middle of the post, about a mile or so from the III Corps HQ building, next to the post office, on an old PT/softball-complex field. My guess is that all recognized religions that don't want to or feel comfortable using the post chapels will use some sort of multi-use building so that the interior can be transformed to whatever design its users require.

The biggest change that I've seen for the Hasan case is the renovation and upgrading of the courthouse on Fort Hood. They're turning it into a state-of-the-art modern courtroom with a complete media/audio/video makeover. Ought to be interesting ...

... and I thought they'd done a renovation before the Abu Ghraib cases ... man, I've never seen anything like what they're doing to that courtroom ...
