MANHATTAN — Mayor Michael Bloomberg will break bread Tuesday with "Ground Zero Mosque" developer Sharif el-Gamal.
El-Gamal and Daisy Khan, another figurehead of the controversial community center, are to attend the mayor's Iftar dinner, the evening meal that breaks the Ramadan fast, Tuesday at 8 p.m., a spokesman for the mayor confirmed.
Bloomberg is scheduled to speak before the dinner.
"I think, without saying exactly what I'm going to say, it would be very difficult to not mention the mosque and not talk about that," Bloomberg said at a press conference Tuesday afternoon, when asked whether he will discuss the proposed Islamic community center near Ground Zero.
When asked who would be coming to the Iftar dinner, the mayor said "You're welcome to take a look and see who comes."
Though Bloomberg has voiced his staunch support for the "Park51" project, when asked if he would consider donating personal funds to the mosque, the mayor said, "If I give to religious organizations, it would tend to be to my temple or another temple."

What the heck’s a iftar? Is that some kind of camel or something? Do you gotta have a license to hunt them? How do they taste with BBQ sauce on them?

If El-Gamal is a “jew” he might be from Egypt. I had an Egyptian Jewish boy as one of my campers back in the 60’s. A delightful, intelligent and gentle kid. God knows what his family had gone thru in Egypt as one of my friends was a leader of the Jewish community in Cairo until 1967. He and the males were thrown into Nasser’s concentration camps and tortured, their assets were seized, and they were then thrown out of the country, penniless.
Israel and the US took them in.
Hope this El-Gamal, if he is Jewish, opens up his mind before it is too late. We don’t need more KAPOS like Soros or Bloomberg. We have enough of them.

I think the poster was referring to Bloomberg, not to El Gamal.
