LAS VEGAS (AP) — From flags to Facebook, 22-year-old Jimena Navarrete has quickly made it clear what she plans to promote as the world's newest Miss Universe — her home country of Mexico.
"I want the whole world to know about my country and my people," the Guadalajara native said after beating 82 competitors for global bragging rights at the pageant in Las Vegas.
"I imagine that they're all going crazy in Mexico right now," she said through an interpreter. "I'm extremely proud and I'm sure they're very proud, too."

Hate to break the news to you, but she was chubby compared to most of the contestants. In international pageants the ideal is the typical gay man hairless 10 year old boy look when it comes to body type.
I'm not so sure about that - I'd like to taste her before I'd make that call. :=)

You’re right! I remember being taken aback when I saw Ireland and her the recording of her voice. She looked magnificent, but she didn’t look Irish.
There were some very light-skinned Africans & Latinas/S Americans, too. It was a surprise. I thought bottle blondes with blue contacts were the international norm.
The presence of the Ukraine girl will haunt me for a long time. She looked like someone you’d like to get to know. Same for the Aussie, who seemed just plain FUN.

Also, the aesthetic is a bit (OK, a lot) different over there.

She is a native Mexican. She is obviously a mestiza (mixed race), probably with a very long ancestry of mixed blood - we are talking of almost 500 years of interbreeding here. Like most Mexicans in fact. Genuine pure-blood Indios are a minority.
The differences come in the variations in proportions of Native/European ancestry. Self-selection and the practice of breeding “up” has created a continuum of indio to white, at least in appearance, which is highly correlated with social status.
OK, point taken, but she’s at LEAST a 12-year old boy...
One factor is that any successful, talented indio or mestizo would marry “up”, find a white girl. Their offspring would look whiter than dad; and so on.
If she could convince the illegals here in our country to go back home to that great country of her’s, mexico, she’d be doing us a great service.

That is how Mexico is. The indigenous looking ones are the poor folks. The ones with the money are more European in appearance. Its been this way for centuries.
